Bananas
« on: August 08, 2006, 06:17:02 AM »
Well fellow Australasians (and the occasional once a day interloper from the northern hemisphere who seems quite desolate at times :monkeymoon: ) my mate came back from a trip to good ol' QL last week and could not get over the price of the humble banana.

Seems since the cyclone flattened the crop around Innesfail that Australia is importing bananas from god nows where at whatever price is asked for

Why dont you gve up on the banana and go for a pineapple. After all there's a few just north of Ipswich I believe? And while you are at it, bananas are around 99 cent/kg - would you like me to send some over?

Gees Mick - $10/kg thats a bit rich but I'll bet there are those that just keep on buying.
Ours are coming in from Equador at the moment. They must have had a glut because we would normally be around the $1.20 to $1.70/kg.

Bananas, Petrol, insurance, interest rates -  shyte everything is going up in price......

I think I'm going to have to think about selling something just to survive

So, let me think about this for a moment..........

What can I sell that will save me money without it, won't be terribly missed, will allow me to have more time to myself,

I know.....

FOR SALE -  one 17 year old - house broken, but is noisy and expensive to run, 6'3" and still growing, in fairly good condition, runs quickly, but needs to be 'kick started' with a bit of choke in the mornings.

Well talking of bananas I had a discussion with our union offical last week trying to sign me up again and spruking on about the huge 4% pay rise we get each year because of them. Ha well he left in a pissed off mood when I was finished with him...dont get me wrong I am not anti union and have been a member for the past twenty years but taking my fees and letting us lag behind in wages is theft in my mind  e.g.  Five years ago after paying everything I had $400 in my pocket to play with each fortnight ...now with 1 creit card no morgage and 1 loan I have about $150 in my pocket and they call that progress.
Used to get change from $50 when filling the car now its the same amount out of a hundred. The average joe blow is falling way behind and it is not going to stop. To all the families out there I comemd you for surviving as I am single and finding it hard..... Done now feel better   :boohoo:

Yes we have no bananas we have no baanans today...especialy at $10 plus a kilo

Your not alone there 2RRS.

Yesyerday Iit cost me $27.85 to fill the Bandit. Now this is $NZ but you get my point especially when it used to cost $15-17.

Everyone on the `middle income' platform is having their disposable cash  reduced day by day and Governments still dont get it

Dont buy any bananas - that will sort things out

It is getting ridiculous

This morning I decided that I'd better mow my lawns - haven't done it for 6 months, that's one upside to a drought - any way I go down to my local servo with petrol can in hand (5lt) and a $5 note in my pocket.

After I filled the can up I looked up to see that it had cost me $7.20 - bugger it  - for the first time in my life I've had to use the credit card to buy petrol for the lawn mower. :duh:  :duh:  :duh:  :duh:  :duh:

Ah! Jeepskate - but then you haven't had your entire banana growing district wiped out completely by a Cyclone (read Tornado).

Supply and demand rules OK

Both are good name brands, if they can get uk arrows then they maybe able to source some other uk brands. The poms have heaps. Just grab a streetfighter mag, you'll see what I mean.

I don't believe we grow any Bananas in this country.  If we do it is extremely limited and certainly not enough to supply the whole country.

That's probably right. I'd bet they come up from SA. Probably Equador or Mexico so they would be cheap. One day they might have a dillemma so the price to you guys will go up too :bigok:
