Title: ONCE BITTEN RALLY
Post by: aussiebandit on February 01, 2006, 05:38:56 AM
The Redback Tourers - Wagga Wagga (the group the Treasurer and I ride with) are holding their annual Once Bitten Rally on the 17-18-19 of March 2006.

I was thinking that we could use this as a get together for the Aussies on the East Coast.

It's held at the Humula Citizen and Sports Club Humula NSW.  Humula is about 25km's South of Tarcutta off the Hume hwy.  The turnoff is just outside Tarcutta on the Albury side or if you're coming from Melbourne you can take the Tumarrumba turnoff and the Humula turnoff is around 22km up the road.

The club sells, among other things, cold beer and will be providing the catering for the weekend along with plenty of beer.

We have the usual Rally events as well as beer, lots of fun and unusal 'characters' and beer.

Cost is $15.00 which includes a Rally Badge.

Once the catering has been sorted I'll let you know.

The Humula Club can be contact on 02 6928 9204 if you want to organise to have your camping gear road freighted there.

Honestly it's a pretty good rally, B6Mick went last year and is organising a return visit.

Oh, B6mick and myself will probably/definately do a run up 'Gods Road' on the Saturday Arvo.

And did I mention there's beer.  And for those who don't drink beer, they also have various Scotches, Bourbans etc and beer.

Here Here, to everything Aussie said! Come on guys, ya gotta try out God's road, it's really is a blast, And Aussie as a guide, ya carn't have that much fun in 80k's. And at the very worst you can only be no more than 80k's from beer. :beers:
And you forgot to mention the 6x12 pool table.

You're right I did, crap, and the juke box - or maybe a band this year - we've got to wait and see what the club (bike club not Humula club) finances are like....

So if Beer, gods road, jukebox, pool table, good people all having fun and maybe a band, ain't enough to entertain you, there is PAKI, he keeps most people entertained all night. Hope he don't win the autosol this year, then again I hope he does, I missed the look on his face, last year when he woke up. :beers:

We are going to head off from Melb, Thursday after work.
Heading east to Bairnsdale, Hotel it for the night. Early start Friday and head to Cann River, North to Cooma, and then down the Snowy Mountains Hwy to Tumut. So hopefully we will get an extra run at Gods Road, if we can find it on the way in.

Mick,

I'm glad you got the map and hope it stops you from getting geographically embarrased.

For those who want to have a look, I'm sorry you'll have to come to the Once Bitten Rally and experience it yourself.

You see, in the interests of all concerned, particularly mine, I'm not going to give out much more infomation about Gods Road.  At the moment the NSW Polite Farce generally ignore this wonderful stretch of road and I'd like to keep it that way.

But if you're clever enough, and have a half decent map, I'm sure you can work it out for yourself.

OK, well hopefully our friends in Humula are alright.  They are currently under threat by bush fires, apparantly they have 1 fire truck for each home so they should be good.

That may sound like a lot of fire trucks, but Humula is only a small town, if it wasn't for the nasty little corners at each end you could go through the place and miss it if you blinked....that is ofcourse except when the Once Bitten is on and we tripple the population.

Anyway, hopefully they will come through unscathed and we can help the local farmers by putting lots of money over the bar

Yes I seen on the news last night, But I didn't realize, it, the fire was, right at their door step, fingers crossed, that all is well for our friends at Humula.

I'll give you an update tomorrow night - they (the firies) are hoping for calm conditions so they can get control.

The other side of the fire, Pulletop, is right on another of my favourite back roads, so it looks like I might have to find somewhere else to play...

With any luck, we (the redbacks), will be taking a ride to Adaminaby on Sunday coming back via Elliots Way and Tumbarumba, assuming the Tumba-Wagga Road is open.

Good news, the fires are just about under control and Humula is safe.

Reports say that the fire was caused by a tractor.....

What? A back firing, hardly dangerous :stickpoke:
But good news, about our friends at Humula.

Apparantly the Club (Humula) are going to drop the prices of the food from what it was last year.  The down side is that there won't be the same selection.  I think they over catered anyway.....

Also, we're looking at having a DJ on Saturday night, and a CD playing stereo for Friday Night and Saturday before and after the DJ.

If money and time permit, I'm planning on doing a trip up Gods before the Rally, just to make sure it's alright, no road works etc, I'd hate for someone to have an accident...the sacrifices I make for my fellow motorcyclists :boohoo:

Just checked with my works Depot at Adelong.

'Gods' road has had some road works happening in the top section - near the Laurel Hill Turnoff - or a couple of clicks after the really twisty stuff heading towards Rosewood from the Tumut end.

They think it's finished, but we should be wary.....

Also, I was thinking that if we head off early enough on Saturday we can head to Adelong instead of Tumut and fill up there.  The only problem is that the servo closes at aroung noon.

But I suppose if all else fails we can still do the Adelong section, then take the Snowy Hwy to Tumut.

We'll decide that on Saturday either way they are both good rides.

Ok had some drama's down here, but we are coming, just the short way instead    but anyway just got inside from being in the shed, readying the bandit and rex. I guessdimating we should be at the rally site somewhere between 3 and 4pm. and coming straight up the dome.
Just hope our camping gear is at the general store. See ya there. :beers:

Wow another great weekend put on by the boys and gals of the redback tourers. Aussie sure did have a word with the big fella, and the weather was nothing less than perfect. Donna and I left Melbourne friday morning with a cool and overcast, but not long after crossing the great divide, we where bathed in bright sun shine, all the way to the rally site. And yes the camping gear we sent up ahead was there waiting for us, phew.
Aussie lead us out for a morning blast up gods road and back, we at least got 1 extra bike this year, making it a grand total of 3 bikes. The out run just seemed so much harder than last year, and the pace was very much slower than I remember. When we gased up we all agreed, and feeling a bit worse for wear, but to all our suprise the return trip was so much easier, and faster. So how come, the loaded log trucks head out and tear the road up, unloaded for our return don't cut the road up, phew for that, so much fun was had.  Many thanks Aussie for yet once again leading us out, to enjoy gods road :beers: . Even Donna who the day before felt a bit out of sorts with the bike, had a rush of blood and had a go, at taking the lead. Saturday arvo saw the events, and the slow face was, what can I say a slow race. Then the egg throwing contest, I was asked, but having broken me spec's the other day, there was to chances of me playing, while blind as a bat without any booze, but the yoke at least was not on me, (sorry couldn't help meself). But Donna and I teamed up to win the hanging donut eating comp, thank you very much a couple of cans of booze, for the huge effort of eating a donut. The awards and raffles, well, at least this year sarg, didn't win just about the whole lot, in fact went home empty handed   Paki didn't win the autosol, and I beleive was even better behaved than me. But aussie do tell, I beleive we have a winner in the whatostepoff award. All I heard was some guy took off at 1 am ringing the redline out of his bike for 4 gears, and them came a gutza. Anyway back to the awards, Donna and I missed out on the longest travelled award by some 50 k's. Next year if all goes to plan and we finally travel the planned route, that there award is ours. As for the trip home the dome Hwy was most uneventfull as the trip up there. But with the new shinko 005 on the rear of the rex well and truelly scrubbed in we at least, had some fun, after turning off the Dome Hwy at Euroa, Alex, and through the Black spur, for some really good fun, and home via the back door. Bloody great weekend, roll on next year.

You're right it was a bloody brilliant weekend.

Paki behaved himself - well at least he made it past 8:00pm and didn't end up on the floor near the bar, but he didn't win the slow race - there was someone who went slower - mind you Paki was on his 'slightly' worked HD and the guy who won it borrowed someone elses CB250 - so it wasn't really fair - but Paki enjoyed himself - and helped the farmer out by ploughing some of the paddock for him.

The fellow who raced of in the middle of the night was a bit pissed, in both senses of the word.   Apparantly some of the young locals had been giving him a hard time, and he cracked the shytes, so rather than start a fight, he thought he'd ride home.  I'm not sure how far he got before he crashed, but he walked back, climbed into his swag and fell asleep.   Some the the guys (Redbacks) went and retrieved the bike - I don't think there was much damage.

Glad you had a good ride home.  I left at around 10 and got home 45mins later.  Unpacked the bike, hung the tent and sleeping bag over the clothes line to air out (by f&*k it stank - I have no idea why - oh that's right Green Ginger wine and Jim Bean in the same glass - not good).

Then sat on the lounge, had lunch then fell asleep - woke up at 6 in time for tea.

Told the Treasurer that you would kick her a%^e if she doesn't go next year.  Her response was along the lines of

"if one of the kids is sick or the cat/dog is crook, either I stay home or they die"

Apparantly she didn't have a good time at home - oh well maybe test riding a SV1000 on Saturday then a ride to Beechworth on Sunday will make her feel better.

Hang on a sec, yes I did drink to much booze, but I really don't remember saying such a nasty thing directed at your good women.
Did I? hmmmm slap me later, but I think the minister would be a bit happier if she did grace us next year with her attendance. I think sarg without his good lady scared the minister, when the ministers bluff didn't work.

Don't worry bloke, it was said with a smile on your face, and the Treasurer, and myself, took it in the in manor it was intended....in fact she had a good laugh, and suggested that, assuming we ride down to Melb at Easter, we meet at Alexandra and ride the Black Spur together...

yow in the dairy.
BTW are you and yours going to the autumn leaf.
The minister wants to go but it means no easter holiday down the lakes, which is no big one to me, well not until we have a boat to go fishing/ sking in. I would be much happier going to the autumn leaf/ and repaying you guys with a guided run.

No unfortunately the Autumn Leaf is a no go for us.....I've been wanting to go to it for a couple of years, but unfortunately kids witner sport starts around that time, usually the first or second round.

From early April until late September we can really only do day trips, although we try to squeeze in a weekend here and there to visit family in Bendigo and Edithvale....

Well you know what they say, don't make plans because shyte will happen. Well it did. One of the minister of wars, dearest friends has just been served up the news that she ain't got to much longer to go, if ya know what I mean. So easter is now driving, yekkk, did I actually say that driving.  Yes for the sake of others I is driving interstate, (now that is a first for more years than i care to remember), so that donna can spend some quality time with her friend. So easter my friend is well and truely out the window.
As for the Autumn rally let us know if any of the guys and girls would wish to meet up with us, for the final leg of our trip up the dome, we will be leaving here friday morning. Should be at the adelong turn off between 3pm and 4pm

Sorry to hear about Donna's friend -

We've got a meeting on Wednesday, I'll let them know......

Easter for us has had a change too, looks like we'll be driving, not riding to Melbourne, but we'll see what happens....
