At least Mr Bracks has down one good thing for Victoria

Victoria has secured the annual Australian Motorcycle Grand Prix at Phillip Island for the next five years.

Premier Steve Bracks said the annual race was a boost to tourism and jobs.

"It is a significant regional event which attracts international attention," Mr Bracks told Southern Cross Radio.

But he refused to disclose how much the event would cost the state coffers.

The government imposes a $60 million cap each on major events including the Formula 1 and motorcycle grand prix races and other sporting events such as swimming.

Mr Bracks said the government was paying a similar amount for the right to continue hosting the event until 2011 as it had done in previous years.

"It's pretty good value and we're very happy with it," he said.

Victoria had competed against Dubai and South American bidders for the right to host a motorcycle grand prix in which Australian riders have been major competitors over many years.

"They're always trying to pinch major events and it's important that we're there securing these to make sure we can get good economic value out of these each year."

Speaking of the Island, the minister and I have just got back for the phillip island, we entered into a cyclerogain event, hey which I must admit was a lot of fun. Sorry, getting a tad of subject, and the reason for my reply, anyway I hope the Bracks/Victorian government does something about the terrible condition of the Bass Hwy, between Cranbourne and San Remo, the brand new sections are fine but some of the sections that are less than 2 years old are shocking, as for the older stuff, well what can I say, why build a good road when you can build a shyte one and keep a couple of hundred people employed for life. :duh:

What, you'd rather they build a good road, a road that is good enough to ride/drive on at a 'reasonable' speed....

You do realise that if they did that then the Brack's Government would just line it with speed cameras set to go off at 1km over the limit....

See we don't have that problem here because most of the roads are shyte, hell you can tell you've left NSW by the fact that your suspension is no longer bottoming out every 50 metres

Mate I know you have some shocker roads, but the bass hwy is really bad now. Oh yeh the Bracks government does not need a good road surface to line the road with speed camera's.
