pick your brains if i may....in nz a vehicle up to 5 years old can get a WARRENT OF FITNESS from a testing station which is good ffor one year,when older than 5 years ,its good for 6 months only,and the test belongs to the vehicle for the period of that time and displayed by a sticker which is attached to the vehicle.the test checks the obvious,brakes,lights,rust,steering components,tyres.costs $20-$40.If it fails you repair the defects and run it through the rechecks lane.
I am coming to auss next week and want to buy a vehicle for one of my kids that is moving to Brisbane to live,and when i look at the adds i don't understand some of them...for example..whats involved in a vehicle advertised with no redgo? does a Road Worthy Certificate last the lenght of time you own the vehicle,do yo abtain a new RWC when ownership changes hands ?and then you are not required to get them periodically checked?any ideas on what it would cost to redgo a small japanese station wagon?any where over there that can tell you if there is any money owed on the vehicle to a bank or finance company? what do they check on the vehicles for a RWC?do they look at minor panel damage and rust?
Over in NZ we phone a number,give the operator the registration and chassis number and they tellyou immediatley if there is money owing on the vehicle and to who it is owed,then add about $9 to your phone bill.
I am looking forward to looking for a vehicle but upon a quick look they appear to be in many cases twice the price with twice the mileage as i think you have protected your market by not allowing millions of japanese imports into your country ,like we have which has lowered the value of cars as there are so many for sale. any comments appreciated...cheers still got the bandit after 4 years as its perfect for me.....cheers slo coach

Not to sure about Queenslands road rules in regard to RWC. But i'm sure a couple of the newer lads can help out, as they are from that neck of the woods.
Ok just spoke to pops an ex bannana bender.
The RWC is valid for 28 days.
To tranfer ownership a roadworthy must be obtained.
Once ownership has been transferred thats it, no further RWC are required, unless the cops pull ya.
Yes in regard to outstanding debts on a car, there is a number you can call, they can let you know if the car still has outstanding debts, and if it has been a repairable rightoff. etc etc. When ya get into town ring the local Queensland dept of transport, they will give you all the goss.

Pretty much spot on Mick, not much else to add really. just the usual stuff to look for when buying 2nd hand.
I think there is a website for the encumbered vehicle check to see if it's has outstanding finance etc etc, i can't remember off the top of my head tho. i'll have a look see later on.
