SNOWY MOUNTAINS HWY
« on: February 12, 2006, 09:00:53 PM »
Well what can I say......

We (the Redbacks) did a 470km round trip from Wagga to Adaminaby on Sunday.  I'm not allowed to talk about it at home - the Treasurer had to stay home because the M750 is in desparte need of new steering head bearings - she's getting them for Valantines Day (aren't I romantic)

Once off the Sturt and Hume highways it was corner after corner.

I've been as far as Kiandra before (turned of to Cabramurra and Tumbarumba).  But this is the first time to Adaminaby.

What an abosolute blast - zero chicken strip on the rear.  Myself and one of the new members on a Sprint ST left the main pack (cruisers) and had a nice little play.  She (yes that's right SHE) was making me look pretty ordinary even though we'd agreed that we would try and set a pace where we used minimal braking.  Basically this meant sitting on around 120-140km and only braking for the slow 35-45km corners the rest was purely throttle control - BRILLIANT

Surprisingly it wasn't the cage drivers but other Motorcyclists that caused me the most grief.  On more than one occaison I had crotch rocket riders in their Power Ranger leathers coming the other way on my side of the road - I don't know who got the biggest scare me or them - bloody knob heads.  If you can't stay on your own side SLOW THE F^&K DOWN.

The only problem with the road was some gravel heading back down Talbingo Mountain - funny I didn't see it on the way up....oh that's right I stayed on my side of the road :duh:  :duh:

Personally I think that stretch of road (Talbingo to Adaminaby) is just about as good as 'Gods Road'.  Gods is better only by virtue of the fact that it has bugger all traffic and isn't as far from home.

I know what ya mean about the roads up there, hence why we go up that way nearly every christmas. And again one of the reasons, when we head to the rally that we are going the way we are going. ( other than we can clock up quite a few extra k's, might put us up there for the longest distance awards. )
Foot loose and fancy free.
Looking for adventure and what ever comes our way.

True there is that.....

We're (the Treasurer and I) are planning to do the Snowy Mountains HWY a little latter in the year - when the weather cools down a bit (but before it snows) - planning on a circle trip - Wagga - Tumut - Adaminaby - Cooma - Cooryong - Tumbarrumba - Wagga
