Watch Out Aussies, Here We Come!!!!
« on: April 14, 2006, 03:21:10 PM »
So my better half and I are talking and we says to each other, "Hey, when the kids are gone, let's take a year off and travel!"

Then I says, "No, travelling gets boring - let's go to one neat place for several months and buy a bike and just live there and enjoy!"

Better half says,  "Where, o big, strong husband, whom i always listen to?"

I says, "Australia!  We have good friends there...they have good beer...they have great weather...we can ride the bike year round instead of just 1.5 months!!"

"Where?" she says.

"Perth?" I says.  "Not sure.  I've heard great things about it!"

Waddaya think?  Is it Perth?

Hmmm Perth, well if ya like being, out the back of butt F*#* Idaho.
Yes there is a couple of good bike roads, but shhhhh, if ya like long straight flat boring hwy's Perth is a pretty safe bet. I think it could only be outdone by Alice Springs, or Broken Hill. For a riding/working holiday my advice would be the East coast. From Wilsons prom in the sth to Cape York in the Nth, roads roads and more roads. Ok the weather can be a lot worse than Perth, but the scenery and the roads would far outway anything Perth can offer. PS Perth Beer is Shyte.

What the f**k is wrong with broken hill.Never rains some good roads and in the middle of every where.8 hours to the Island,6 hours to malala and Adelaide international for the drags,mf personal best is 3 hours 20 min to adelaide 512km away.Over 25 pubs and clubs lots of single woman, what more do you want.Oh and NO peak hour traffic and most of the highway patrol ride too.

The place, absolutly nothing, but getting there is a bore, not quite as bad as the nullaboring heading to Perth, its great if ya hit the beaten track heading sth from the lakes, but ya got to admit, the roads maybe good for hitting land speed records if thats ya fun, its all yours, give me a mountain or coastal run anyday of the week thank you very much.

I have to, yet again, agreen with my learned friend, Mick.

If you like long flat streches of road, and long flat beer, then go to Perth.

If like riding round corners, enjoy a bit of variety in your scenery, and nice beer, try the east coast.  Wilsons Prom can be a bit dodgy as far as the weather is concerned, it's not far from Melbourne, but it still wouldn't be as cold as you get in the great white north.  And the weather in Queensland often resembles that of a sauna turned on full, a dip in the ocean will fix that.....oh and Queensland beer is worse than Perth beer.

It's so bad the even call it XXXX.

Methinks you've never been to butt F*#* Idaho.    :stickpoke:

Let me present some pics for ya:

(Idaho can be flat and boring along the southernmost part - where their bigger burgs are, but out in "butt F*#*" territory, it's actually great.

Paul - I rode through Idaho just last summer and have to agree.  I can remember telling a hotel owner there it was the prettiest state yet that I had seen and I have been just about everywhere in the us of a!  I was totally shocked; expected the trip through to be very boring from people i had talked to.

Yes most correct I have not.
I must say sorry for those who I have offendeded.
But, its a saying that I picked up from one of your fellow yanks about 20 odd years ago, and the emphasis being "out the back of"

So when ever I'm asked where the hell I might be, off the beaten track, the answer most times is "out back of butt F*#* Idaho"

So it's a bit like the town from Hey Hey It's Saturday, Upper Kumbuckter West, we're Mrs McGilugutty was from.

Or is it just this side of the Black Stump.  Incidently, my in-laws live 45 minutes the other side of the Black Stump.  True story.  Go to Coolah, head out on the Gunedah Rd and then take the first right after The Black Stump, and then 45 minutes (if the road is open) later you're there.

Why do you find it hard to believe I'm married.  And believe me if I'd hired in-laws, I'd have been a damn site more selective.

My mother-in-law died 11 years ago, best thing she ever did.  But she still haunts me to this very day, you see she died 2 days before my birthday..the bitch (may god bless her soul).

I haven't seen or spoken to my father-in-law or sister-in-law since the funeral, and I've only briefly spoken to my brother-in-law a couple of times before I handed the Treasurer the phone..

For the record I've been married 18yrs on the 23 April.  I've got two kids, a 16yr old and a 10yr old. Oh just so you know, we've got a dog and cat, 2 cars, 2 bikes and my wife gets on with my family really well....except for my brother, but I don't get on with him all that well anyway....

Naw - I was just ribbin' ya!

You can pick your friends.......

Actually, I have a nephew on my wife's side who is my best bud - he's got a 750 vfr I would die for!

I have one of those ex-English father-in-laws who came over from supposed God's country in the early fifties and then spent the rest of his life telling everyone (including canadians) how useless canadians are and how perfect England is!  Thought I would strangle him several times.

have to feel for his kids - they grow up NOT English and NOT Canadian so, psychologically, they're stuck in an island somewhere in the atlantic.

I guess it's human nature to look back at where you come from as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Weird how I, as a Canuck, was never good enough to be a son-in-law...but who was the only one there shovelling his drive at 5 am and getting his groceries and doing his electrical and plumbing once he got to old to do it himself.  It sure wasn't some poof!

Sorry for ranting but I feel tons better now. :thanks:

Jim

Actually, I was looking for a bit of sympathy.  18yrs, I would've been out on parole 8yrs ago if I'd committed murder.....

As for looking back at where you came from as being the best thing since sliced bread, well I was only a wee little lad of 5 when we moved to the land of Oz, but by all accounts we're a hell of a lot better of than we would've been.  Shyte, I'm always telling the relatives in Pommy Land to move here, the weather is warm and the beer is cold, and Beef looks, smells and tastes like Beef, and we can eat it......
