Title: Ride Routes For BOSS ? ? ?
Post by: Bantana on March 14, 2005, 07:47:46 PM
OK, who has any ideas about routes for this year's rally?
I know of some really nice roads just west of Willville, like:
58 from Independence to Damascus and 16 up to Hungry Mother State Park.

Other ideas?

I'm  thinking of maybe The Blue Ridge Parkway. I never been on it, like to check it out.

Well Kent, there is over 400 miles of BRP so you could stay pretty busy
riding that stretch of road. :-)  I'm not sure what it's like north of Willville,
but the area just north of Asheville is fabulous. I have another rally that weekend, but I do intend to be at Willville Friday night and Saturday morning. Midday Saturday I'll have to bolt for Cumberland Gap to hook up for a evening with my Floribama Riders.

Its not real challenging north of Willville. Lots of gentle sweepers. When I went down there last year, I hit it early on a Sat. morning and ran into very little traffic. Speed limit is 45mph, but you can generally get away with about 10mph over. It was a very nice ride.

I'd say its probably similar to the Cherohala, but not as high in elevation. All-in-all its a very enjoyable ride, just not real challenging.

Uhhh....the National Park Rangers don't have a lot of patience with M/Cs from my experience.  Don't know about the "Harley crowd," but it seems we get grouped in with the squids who like to race around up there.  Don't get caught +10.  BTW, that "get out of jail free" card might not be much good either with the LE Rangers.

I figure the BRP will mostly be used to connect up with other, less traveled roads...........
Yeah...you don't want to be too ambitious on it.........but it's a pretty ride.

I am actually thinking about riding up that way next saturday or sunday and checking the area out. If anyone knows some decent side roads to hit, let me know. If anybody is near here and wants to ride with me, Post here. (I'll probably jump on the parkway right above wilkes, nc)

Well, I ordered some new tires for mine and will probably be putting them on sat. And we have a decent group riding to lake lure sunday so I don't think I'll make it toward willville this weekend. If you happen to head that way, let me know and i'll give you my cell#, if i get those tires on fri. I'll need to break 'em in anyway
