Hi All,
In the process of breaking in my new Bandit 1250. At about 550 miles, notice the plastic housing for the tach and speedo came loose. The lower anchor point is fine and it is holding to the lip of the fairing mount point. The upper anchors are 3 plastic tabs with a hook to engage a plastic trim that sit under the wind screen. The hooks are not hooking. It came loose. I pushed the instrument housing forward to engage the hooks but it feels like an over stuffed suit case that won't close. it pops off after a couple of seconds.
My current solution, a 12 ga copper wire with black insulation. The ends are bent to a hook to hook the top of the tach and the top of the speedo. The middle of the wire wraps down and forward to the lower lip of the wind screen. The wire has to be just the right length inorder for the hook to pull the instrument housing tightly forward.
The bike is new, I doubt the dealers have any solutions yet. I need to prep the bike for a coast to coast round trip coming up in June. I cannot afford the time to have the bike sit at the dealer for a few days.
If anyone have a better solution, I can use it.
BTW, the 07 Bandit is so sooth that I find myself going 85-90 mph without knowing it. My old Concours (I love that bike) usually backs me off with vibration and noise.

Thanks for the heads up... I went and checked mine and it's buttoned up nice and tight. (non-ABS)
It sounds like something is askew in there, preventing the panel to snap down into place.
I suggest using a mechanic's (dentist) mirror and a bore light and look around back there for foreign objects or something out of place... check the wiring, etc... could be something simple.

I had sort of a similar problem after taking mine apart and installing XM radio. I didn't like the long route of wiring under the seat so I chose a closer route into the instrument panel. After getting the install done, I had a problem with the right side of the bottom clip(plastic) holding in the slot. I simply snapped it back into place and it has worked fine so far. I am thinking like Zenman, that something is aray in there. Probably something simple like a wire or something lying where it should't be. I would be willing to bet that if you removed the instrument panel and made sure that everything is snugged back into it's rightful home that it would snap back into pace with no problems.

And rather than cable ties, you can use those velcro strabs used to collate computer cables...easier to remove and reuse, and can be velcro'd to another surface to keep everything in their place.

Mine came loose at around 600 miles as well. Only the top. It snapped back in place with no problem and hasn't happened since. I have almost 1300 miles on it so far.

I haven't had the problem since I fixed it the first time(XM install) but I mentioned this to a friend of mine and he said that the top clips had to go in first and then the bottom clips(which he called "seats") go in to secure the top ones. He is a motorcycle mechanic and I would think that he knows about stuff like this. Just thought that I would share....Banditone1250s... :motorsmile:

I noticed mine was loose as soon as i got her home from the dealer. I just popped the 2 allen screws and re- seated it quick, but the last hook in the middle wont sit in quite right, so Ima take her apart this weekend and fix it for good, or have the dealer do it on first service.... prolly that since I paid for a maintenance plan, and it's under warranty anyway.

Mine popped today as well. Only 100 miles. Gonna look at getting it back together tomorrow.

Which two allen screws? I just looked, and can't find any...although I did spend a day staring at a computer screen.

At the bottom of the plastic holding the cluster, just above the handlebars are 2 allen screws, the allen wrench inn the tool kit fits them. Loosen those and the bezel holding the cluster comes loose, then you can do what you need to do to reseat it.

Yellow arrows indicate three slots that the 3 tabs fit into, the blue circle/arrow is the rubber grommet that the white plastic probe-thingy on the back of the instrument cluster plugs into.

Then replace the screws. :wink:
