** Just realized this is a bit of a repost... oh well! **
It happened again. :annoy: This is the second time I've been ~300mi into a new rear tire, and I get a big honkin' nail stuck in the tread.
Last time, I used the gooey-rope type plug, and put 12,000 more miles on it with no problems. I'm sure people out there will think that was stupid, and I should have replaced the tire, but I was broke and could barely afford the repair kit.
I used a similar repair system this time (ream, and insert a rubbery plug, trim excess from outside). I'm not excited about having this on the back of my mind AGAIN every time I lean into a twisty.
I guess the reason I'm posting this is that I need to be swayed: Do I replace the tire, replace the emergency plug with a mushroom-type, or do I kick back and trust that everything will be fine...
ack. :duh:

Sounds like what you need to do is buy your tires from someplace that offers a road hazzard warranty... like Cycle Gear. (http://www.cyclegear.com/)
At least I was fortunate enough to pick up something when the tire was just about shot.

I think you should stop parking on the Indian guys nail bed when you go out! :monkeymoon:

Are they the same type of nail? Maybe you're picking them up in the same place?
I know when they re-roofed my apartment complex, the parking lot looked like it was paved with nails!!!!

Nope, from different places, but that's something to think about in the future! The last one was a shingle nail, as a matter of fact, but the most recent was about 4" long. How it went straight into my tire, I have no idea.

If it's any consolation, my recent tire puncture turned out to not be from a nail as I originally thought, but from a small piece of spearhead shaped piece of gravel!
Did I mention I have a gravel driveway ~120' long?
