Title: Another question for Bandits with ABS riders
Post by: the ferret on August 06, 2007, 08:36:56 AM
Readiing some articles mentions a pulsing in the brake lever and pedal..

Do you feel this all the time or just when the ABS is kicking in to prevent wheel lock?

Just when the ABS kicks in i.e. when it's about to save your butt so you are only likely to encounter it on very rare occasions unless, of course, you ride on the limits of the bike and prevailing conditions all the time...

Note that the front discs make a whirring/humming noise when applied. I've never noticed this other bikes.

Mine makes the same sound, like a little electric motor comes on when you squeeze the front brake.

And I don't have ABS.... all B1250 riders report the same sound.

I've heard several explanations... it's the holes in the rotor "whirring" past the brake pads... it's the vibration of the rubber rotor mounts... it's the brake pads vibrating in the calipers... it's the calipers vibrating on the caliper mounts... Take your pick.

All I know is it's not the ABS.

My two previous bikes had drilled discs and they didn't 'whir'. It's not objectionable and I suppose it's a sort of reassuring that you can hear braking effort being applied rather than just feeling it but I've never had it on any other bike. Is this just a Suzuki thing? Just a Bandit thing? Just a 1250 thing?

I don't know.

I have heard different noises from different front brakes on different bikes, but nothing quite like this "electric motor" sound.

It does seem as though the larger diameter and thinner the rotors are, the more tendncy they have to make weird noises.

I'd just make sure all your nuts and bolts are torqued correctly and not worry about it.

Well, when you guys take your first ride on a 1250, you're in for a real treat!

It's a neat sound, really... kinda hi-tech or robotic...

I'll bet you're on to something...similar to running your finger around the edge of a "fine china" wine glass.  The higher the quality of leaded crystal in the glass, the better the sound quality/tone.  Quality bike, quality brakes...must be a connection

I guess that's to go with the look of a robot face when viewing the 1250 motor from the side.

My buddy had replaced his pads on his 03 gixxer600, and says they make the same sound now. He says it's the scintered(sp?) brake pads that the factory uses nowadays. When I told him about it, he took it for a quick spin and said "yup, it's those pads.. totally normal"

Can we get special order pads from Suzuki to play our favourite tunes?

I can't believe you guys are talking about old guys.  I will be 75 the 29th of this month.  Love my Bandit...the ABS kept me out of trouble when I came up on water flowing over the highway and braked hard...ABS kicked in...it worked.  Not a good photo as I had my jacket hanging over the seat.

75? Good for you Blue Racer. :congrats:  Hope I'm going as strong when I reach your age.

I'm approaching 60 always wonder how much longer I'll be able to enjoy this sport. I'm headed to Europe on a Edelweiss tour in 09 cause I've always wanted to see the Alps, and wanted to get it done before I got too old. Already have some minor health issues so I gots to get her done.

You give us something to shoot for. I hope you have many motor riding years ahead of ya. :thumb:

The Alps are great. I hiked 'em back in 2001 after going to see Mad King Ludwig's castle in Fussen.

Make sure to eat some liebkase. Although it translates as "livercheese" it's neither liver, nor cheese.

:bigok: Of all the castles I visited when I was in Europe last year, Neuschwanstein was my fav! :thumb:
I was bummed about not having a bike there, but the roads were still fun in a cage... not as much fun, but at least it was warm when the snowflakes started falling.

Ferret, when you get a little older and the old knees start to go, try a trike.  I love mine.  Had it two years and really like to ride it ....great for long distances.  Rode from Santa Fe, NM to Boerne, TX the other day...690 miles and only stopped for gas and PR....great distance machine...

I went in May/June, so the parasailers and hang gliders were out. Don't have any digital pictures though...

Holy Crap Racer..I think you got a better retirement package than I'm going to have ha ha

I don't think I'd like a trike, but I might consider a big scooter in about 10 years.

Ferret, Naw, just a raggety assed old Air Force troop who did not have enough sense to get out...stayed 29 years, then said, "I don't think I want to make a career out of this."  Then worked for Sony Corp for thirteen more...both groups treated me well.  The harder I worked, the luckier I got.....

Scooter you say, hey, check out my '03 Suzuki Bergman 650.  A real sleeper.  Runs like a hose....I love it too.

Yea..it usually works that way

I've heard those Bergmans are the cat's meow. Maybe when I get tired of throwing my leg over and decide it's easier to throw it through.

Do your feet get bored with not having anything to do on it?

No, actually it is natural just to have your feet on the floor.  There is a lot of space so you can move your feet around and up under the dash.  It is a neat scooter.  Parking brake, lighter socket for GPS, etc. lots of storage space under the dash.  I really like it.  Longest trip was 275 one afternoon with a buddy who has one too.  45mpg or better if you don't lean on the right hand too hard.  It was clocked at 103 in a scooter mag and will cruse 80 or better all day long.  It is a sleeper...

I bought it in '03 and will keep it a looonnnggg time...cheaper insurance too.
