Title: B1250 Speedometer
Post by: Katamaniac on July 19, 2007, 12:43:47 PM
I ran the Bandit the other day with my GPS onboard and the Bandit Speedo was 5MPH faster than the GPS at 60 MPH.

I have used that GPS on everything from my buddies boat to my Chevy Trailblazer and it is always right on with everything else. I also read a review from Rider magazine that mentioned the speedo seemed to be fast.

Now I need to find out how to calibrate it. Maybe I could go up one tooth on the front sprocket to compensate for the fast speedo. I believe the sensor for the speedo is on the countershaft of the tranny.

Any other thoughts on this?

I don't know about the 1250, but on the 1200, to go up another tooth in the front requires minor trimming to provide chain clearance.

You'll probably find the odometer is pretty accurate (at least they are on the electronic speedos of the earlier 600/1200)... so this error is intentionally built-in.

If having the speedo accurate is more important to you than the odo and you can't go up a tooth up front, you could always go down 3 teeth in the rear or look into a speedo corrector, like the Yellow Box. (http://www.blackrobotics.com/)

If the speedo is inaccurate, will the odo be off as well? Or are they completely independent of each other?

According to Dale Walker- our speedo's are 5mph off at speed.  Seems to be intentional.  My TDI VW was the same way- read 4 mph slow across the board..but the odometers are usually spot on.  it is to avoid sueing the manufacturer for speeding tickets from what I know.

My 1250 shows 75 at 70 per GPS.  80=75, I am too lazy to recal the speedo...I will just use Kentucky Windage.... Figure the odometer is off 4/5% also...

I'd rather have my odometer accurate... the speedo being 5mph faster is probably a good thing in my case, if I would just look at it more often.

It appears that the Odometer is off a little too. My truck and my Trailblazer both show 15.1 miles to my work and the bike shows 15.8 miles. So that tells me that the speedo and odo are off about the same amount. I'll check it against the GPS again this weekend.

Like I said, odometer is off +/- 4%....100 miles is really 94.

CORRECTION!  Actual miles will really be 96 at 100 miles on the odometer.     :duh:
