Any guesses (or real experience!) on what the max speed is on the new 1250? I haven't seen this published anywhere.
Also, do you think that top speed would be in 6th, or 5th?
I happen to have a real good idea of what the 6th gear top speed is, haven't tried 5th yet. But I'm not telling yet, I want to hear what others have to say first.

First of all the Bandit 1250 is supposed to have a very optimistic speedo
That said check out this link and click on the new Bandit, then 1250 videos and look at high speed run. I think his speedo hit 170 or 171 on this run.

Now THAT was an interesting clip! No way would I guess this bike's capable of 171, and I'm sure the Holeshot products are good, but can they be THAT good?
I've had mine up to 150 MPH, and that was under reasonably ideal conditions. It was like pulling teeth to get those last few MPH's out of her. However, mine's bone stock and I stayed in 6th.
Looking at that clip, he was redlined on the tach, so I'm thinking that run might have been done in 4th! at 150 MPH in 6th I was only a bit over 7K RPM.
Dave, chime in! Tell us how that speed run was done!

I can tell you this...I won't be trying to find out what top speed is on mine when I get it. Doubt it will ever see 100. I think I've had my FZ1 to maybe 6000 rpm and maybe 90? :lol:

I guess at the tender young age of 48, I still have some wild oats to kill off. I still get a thrill out of the occasional high speed run. I can't imagine owning a bike like this and not pushing it up to a buck and a half once in a while.
Now before the safety take-it-to-the-track crowd flames me, I only will attempt such runs under nearly ideal conditions, and I understand completely how dangerous this is (Stopping distance = 3 footballl fields @ 150! :shock: ). But ... DAYUM it's fun!

I think Dale might have a 17T front sprocket on that bike which would throw off the speedo even more. I noticed he had no problem getting to redline which leads me to believe it has the 17T front. The Bandit 1250 speedo is off 6 mph according to my very accurate GPS unit :grin: Actually it is off the same as my GSXR1000 to the mph, hmmm think they are trying to get away with something. My V-Stroms were all off closer to 8 mph. If you cange the gearing on this bike the speedo will be further off due to the pickup being at the front sprocket. Me i'm not too concerned about top speed on this bike I have a GSXR1000 to go do that on. :motorsmile: The B1250 is plenty quick but looking at the flat torque curve it was not designed for top speed runs. Torque is what this big boy is made for. :wink:

I keep reading this, but where are you all getting that? I'm 99% sure the speed sensor is on the front wheel, not on the counter-shaft sprocket. I know it was on my SV anyway, is it different on the Bandits?

Starting in 2000 on the B6 and 2001 on the B12, the speedo reads off the countershaft sprocket. (Prior to that, Bandits have cable driven speedos off the front wheel.) I'm guessing this continued with the new 650/1250 since this is the way Suzuki does it on the GSXR's & Hayabusa. I don't know why they chose to do the SV differently.

Look on the C/S sprocket cover and if you see a small wire bundle running down and stopping on a little sensor over where the C/S sprocket is, you've just found the sensor.

I'll keep my eye out for it this weekend when I'm installing my TFI box. Glad I know it's there so I can be careful with it.. the sprocket cover on the SV is just a hunk of metal w/ the clutch cable running into it.. no wires or anything for me to break. When it gets time to change out sprockets, I may have tried to gorilla it off..

Dale shot that run with a radar gun and I believe said 161mph. IIRC it was a 5th gear run as well with stock gearing a slip on and some f/i work. Something like 120hp.

That makes sense. That extra 20 HP would account for 10 MPH more, and I suppose 5th gear would approach redline.
I'm truly impressed that the slip-on and re-map gains 20 HP! I may have to give this some serious thought!

I think Dale's dyno run showed an increase from roughly 105 HP stock to 115 HP with kit (slip-on, air filter, & FI box). I assume that's the setup he ran the video with.
Still pretty good, roughly 10% without any significant engine changes, with an increase in torque across the board as well, IIRC.
Still faster than I want to go, but I did have the little stock 600 up to 215 km/hr on the clock (so closer to 190-195 kpmh) across the bare, open Oregon desert earlier this year. That's in the range of 120 mph.

It was some of that bare, open Oregon desert where I had my 1250 up to 150 just a few weeks ago ... and my buddy on his tricked out CBR1000RR passed me like I was standing still (he said indicated 181)!

I have had my G2.5 1200 up to an indicated 249 km/hr (~154 MPH) just cuz I could. It was on a very slight downhill with no wind of any kind. Unfortunately I was too busy watching the speedo with one eye and the road with the other to take note of the revs. :lol:
That is, hands down, the fastest I've ever gone in/on anything with wheels and no wings.
#17 didn't feel like she was straining or anything....but the rev limiter was doing its thing at the end of the run so I must have been hitting 11K RPM.
I may never do that again....but it's nice to know that could if I wanted to.
Now I've had a somewhat pale example of what the Moto GP and WSB guys experience.....but they do it every lap. :lol: :lol: :lol:
