Title: Bandit 1250 Mods
Post by: terizius on April 17, 2008, 12:44:16 AM
I've been signed up here for about a month but have been dividing my time mostly between TWTex and Max-Suzuki.  I'll throw all my mods in over here though.  They are all comfort/cosmetic thus far, but may give you some ideas...  Was going to post link to my Photobucket but it never worked so I just threw them all on here.

just a view of what i see while riding.  Highway pegs, tank pad(carbon fiber) handlebar bag, gps, handlebar risers, daytona bars, hand guards, hand warmers, 12v accessory plug, mirror extenders, running lights converted to blinkers ( in preparation for adding flush mounts).  Also, not yet installed in image, MRA VarioTouring Screen in smoke gray color.

typical riding position, not using the highway pegs

Riding/leg position using highway pegs
(http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll307/Terizius/Bandit%201250/highwaypegsfeet1.jpg)

Riding position with legs stretched out on the highway pegs.  No engine heat felt when riding at speed.

Image of mirror extenders.  Bought off of Ebay, $30.

Image of accessory lights installed under front fairing.  Should not have any problem with clearance as long as i stay off the curbs.

Image of accessory lights when on.  Should make me much more visible to traffic.  I have since converted the running lights into blinkers in preparation for installing flush mount turn signals.

image of  my accessory light mounting bracket
(http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll307/Terizius/Bandit%201250/lightbracket.jpg)

Accessory light mounting bracket that i made.  Simply a steel tie-down from home depot, bent, cut and drilled to fit and hold the lights.  Lights are wired through a 2nd relay under the seat with an inline fuse.

Image of tail lights i made and installed with just the running lights on.

Tail light showing the brakes illuminated

Pic showing the running lights (suzuki "S" in the middle and middle row in hardbags) as well as the blinkers on.  Again, camera picked the blinkers up as yellow

New Tail lights i designed and made.  This pic shows ALL lights on.. running light (the suzuki "S" in the middle), brake lights and blinkers.  Unfortunately, the blinkers came up as reddish in the camera..

Pic of tank before adding tank trim
(http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll307/Terizius/Bandit%201250/notanktrim.jpg)

Intalled trim on the tank.  Automotive door trim from wal-mart.  $3, came in 2 strips 2ft long.  Perfect fit and looks better.

Side view of the Bandit, sans seat (was at Spencers getting upgraded).  OEM Hard Bags installed as well as AluRack with adapter plate.

12V accessory plug to keep cell phone/headset/whatever charged on those long trips.  Wired into a relay under the seat.

Added the SWMotech AluRack but had to cut the blinker mounting points off (yellow dashed) in order to get it to fit in right.  No longer needed blinker mounts as I integrated them into the tail light as well as the hard bags.  Looks pretty good to me :)

the tail light with integrated blinkers that i made to replace the stock incandescent bulb.  Running light in the middle, brake on the front panel, blinkers on front panel/sides
(http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll307/Terizius/Bandit%201250/brakeboard.jpg)

rotated the footpegs 180 degrees to increase peg distance and riding comfort
(http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll307/Terizius/Bandit%201250/footpeglowered.jpg)

Frontal view with the highway pegs lowered.  Accessory lights not yet installed in this image
(http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll307/Terizius/Bandit%201250/frontpegsdown.jpg)

GPS Mount for Garmin Zumo 550.  Does GPS, Phone, MP3 and more.  Also showing handlebar bag that i designed and made from waterproof cordura fabric.  Used to hold glasses, CrampBuster, earplugs and various other things as needed (phone when its charging)

Switch mounted for hand warmers, wired through relay under seat.  Tapped into horn to give the relay its on switch.  Prevents them from working when i turn the bike off.  Also, not yet installed in this image is another switch about 3/4 inch up from this one that turns my accessory lights on and off.

Handguards from VStrom 650 installed to protect hands from debris/wind.  Mounted on Daytona Bikemaster handlebars (much better feel than stock bars) and using GenMar handlebar risers for 1 inch lift and 1 3/8 inch pull back toward rider
(http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll307/Terizius/Bandit%201250/handguards.jpg)

Handlebar bag i designed and made.  Looked but never found any i was satisfied with online, so i made my own out of waterproof cordura fabric

really like the side case running light mod and almost invisible highway pegs. Any source and installation info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.  The side case lights were custom by me.  Was my first project of the kind and after much research and 4 attempts later, i finally figured it out.  Regarding the Highway pegs, those came from www.twistedthrottle.com  Price was about $85 total for pegs and mounts.  Make sure you specify the black mounts.  They are mounted on SWMotech Crash bars.  Bar size is 1 inch but i found the 1 inch mounts to be a bit small and has to bend them out a bit.

The taillight with the Suzuki emblem in it is awesome! Great job.
I also really like the tank trim. I might do a similar thing myself...

thanks for the compliments.  And trust me, i do get out and ride :P  Just got back from Sacramento, coming from San Diego, about 500 miles one way.  First long trip ever, done with my wife and about 80 extra pounds between gear and luggage.  Having the seat redone, highway pegs and crampbuster really made that a decent trip.  Plan to head to GA in July.. over 2.2k miles one way.  That ought to be fun :P

Awsome mods, wish I had your talent. Can you give me the part number for the Vstrom Handguards? Have an 07 Bandido 1250 that I want to do the same to. JT

I have those same factory hard bags and want to know where you got the brake lights to put in? They come with empty red lenses that should be lit. Do you have problems with the wiring harness being bumped by stuff in the bags? What about when you take the bags off, is there a danger of ripping the light connecting wires off?

Now i have to figure out how to do the highway pegs with my factory fairing lowers.
Great job on the running lights. I may add a set of those myself for the same reason....so idiots in cages can see me!
One headlight + invisible.
Two or more and you are now a slightly visible blurry image. Sometimes that is all we can hope for
