Alrighty folks, for those interested, heres the latest on my project beast. I havent yet divulged all the motor goodies that are planned but heres a peek at what ive been up to lately.
I have a complete High Mount Holeshot exhaust, with the 14" Comp2 muffler. This exhaust added a noticable amount of grunt and sounds beautiful. I cant hear it at highway cruise, but when ya get on it :drool: I had the slip-on only before the bike was hit in seattle. Some pics:

And next up that some of you may or may not know, i decided that 1127cc was a hair small for me, so I bought the Holeshot 1216cc Big Bore kit, complete with JE forged pistons :mfclap:

Since the bike is air/oil cooled, i wanted to improve cooling and whatnot while adding some originality to it. I sent the engine cases/covers and exhaust to the very capable hands of Brad and Josh at Performance Coatings to give them a makeover. They were nice enough to take some pics of the process 8) Pics were taken with a disposable cam, so i apologize for the quality:tard:

I had the whole engine coated with a semi-gloss thermal dispersant ceramic coat. This is supposed to dramatically help the engine shed heat. :ninja:

And lastly, I wanted a different look for the exhaust so I had the factory ceramic coating on the exhaust blasted off (sorry Holeshot) and had it re-coated in satin black. I love the way it came out! It will make a nice contrast to the otherwise shiny bike.

Theres no good pics to show it, but i also had the guys at PC do the Tri-Coat treatment to the JE pistons. Thermal barrier on the top/bottom, as well as a lubricant coating on the skirts. All in all things are coming along nicely. Im hoping to hear it roar next month. This installment comes with a BIG shout out to the guys at Performance Coatings. They stayed after hours to get my stuff coated asap, and quality of the workmanship is outstanding.:mfclap: :mfclap:

:bigok: Did you go with the Holeshot/JE 10.8:1 piston kit, or the APE 13.5:1 kit?
Kind of surprised you're putting the stock signal generator and starter clutch covers back on. Would've thought you'd go with NRC's - just in case it ever falls down. The stock covers are notoriuos for breaking in even parking lot tip-overs. Painted up to match, the NRC covers will blend in well and offer great protection, even in high speed contact with terra firma.

I went with the Holeshot/Je combo. the higher compression one was certainly tempting, but i ride the hell outa my bikes and i want reliability as well as hp. Seemed like a better fit for me.
And i agree with you on the case covers. Truth be told i'd love some NRCs and will prolly do that. This project is so ongoing that they arent in the budget atm. They will come for sure. Perhaps later this summer :motorsmile:

thanks for the update, love seeing tons of pics. I love the satin finish on the pipe, I think that can look really sharp. Plus it makes your bike stand out which for something you've spent so much time and energy on isn't a bad thing at all.

Er, the factory Bandit "1200" is actually 1157cc's. Nothing against the big-bore kit, but you get just 59cc extra. That's 3.63 ci. :bigok:
I've heard that most slip-ons for the Bandit are restrictive so that they will work (sort-of) without requiring jetting changes. :annoy: Since the beast already comes super-lean from the factory, it would make more sense for Holeshot and other makers to provide a freer-flowing can and include a matching jet kit. :stickpoke: If that were done, it wouldn't hurt to include a set of pod filters to finish the job properly. :cheese: - good luck with the mods, great pics. he was being sarcastic. You can see this can is straight thru, as are most. Even my Holeshot "Street" can is pretty much like that, except the edges of the perforations are raised to catch flow and quiet things down just a touch.
AFAIK, Holeshot is the only outfit that makes both cans and jet kits for Bandits. They do offer a jet kit with pods, too. And if you buy both a pipe and a jet kit and tell them you learned of their stuff thru this (or the other) board, you'll get a discount off the site's prices.

I know its not muc h but ill get a little torque bump from it. Im really hoping to get 90 ft lbs but there are more built bikes on here making 94 so im not so sure ill get there. heres hoping! :motorsmile:

<grin> I was teasing too . . . I've been yanking the guts out of mufflers since 1958 just to see what would happen. Most of it I didn't like in the long run.
If the Bandit didn't make so much power as it comes, I'd be the first one to get the head reworked with 3-angle valve job, compression increase and gixxer cams . . . OR, put a turbo on it (probably the easiest way to get the torque you want). A GSXR1100 head can save a lot of work.
Have you seen the Bandit with the Brock-Hindle setup? It makes 162 hp and 95.1 lb-ft of torque with Pistons, flatslide carbs, cams and headwork. Respectable.
Some of our Euro cousins have worked on the Bandits until they got 200 hp. They went so crazy that even the "laissez-faire" French finally put in speed limits after big bikes started exceeding 200 mph on the AutoRoutes. Hee!

well ive done a bunch of that. no head swap, but i do have the 3-way valve job, milled etc headwork, the gixxer cams and the big bore kit. And the holeshot exhaust and stage 2 jet kit. The turbo i found had awkward piping (mr turbo kit) and i am 6'6" so would def hit my legs on them. We shall see how it turns out

Not all turbo kits are created equal. For that matter, not all after-market parts are either. :bomb: That's why this site is so useful, and why I greatly appreciate tech postings such as yours. :grin:
Saddle height on my '99 Bandit is 32.9", so it takes someone over 6' to really enjoy the size of the Bandit. Hm-m! You're 6'-6"? That's about the size of a Wookie, I think <grin>. I had a lot of trouble finding a windshield tall enough for the bikini fairing, :annoy: so had to ditch same and get "nekkid", allowing me to mount a 26" silhouette windshield to get my hat out of the "paint-shaker". At least I had no trouble putting the feet down flat at stops (6'-3").
So, with turbo in place, you end up with knees sticking out in the wind? Not good on long rides. Looking fwd to hearing how this works out for you.

just to give you a little info a 3 angle valve seat is what they are stock and a 5 angle is the upgrade can be done at most shops or you can go with a radius cut seat which is the best but it has to be done on a serdie machine just so ya know ok
