Title: Busa shock
Post by: Big Bo on March 10, 2005, 09:03:09 PM
OK, I started this thread on the Busa shock. Now lets get the ball rolling. I have a Busa shock but have not put it on because I am nervous about the height with the Busa shock. What have you done? Are you going to go Busa shock? Why, why not?

I had tail lifting dogbones in before I went to the Busa shock. When I installed it, I put the stock bones back in. Ride height was very close to, but slightly less than the aftermarket dogbones. Maybe 1/8-1/4" difference. It will quicken the handling and raise the seat height, so if either of those are a concern, you can install lowering dogbones to bring things back to stock levels.

I take it you're wanting lowering bones?
Most of the aftermarket ones raise. The only ones I know of that are lower are Holeshot's adjustable ones. (http://www.holeshot.com/bandit/bndt_adjustable_struts.shtml) Which give you the option of 1.25" higher or 1.25" lower.

If you have basic fabricating tools, you can make your own. Click here for instructions. (http://forums.banditalley.net/viewtopic.php?t=199)

Since we are on the topic, the Busa shocks seem to be a dime a dozen.  Are they noticibly better than the stock Gen1 B12 shock?  In what way?

While some have put them on 1G's, they will raise the tail a lot more than on a 2G and they're more of a hassle to install if you still have the airbox.

Generally, the Busa shock is a 2G mod and 1G's use the GSXR750 shock.

Title: RF 900 REAR SHOCK BANDIT 1200
Post by: FLBandit98 on May 25, 2005, 01:52:06 PM
I recently installed a RF900 rear shock on my 98 Bandit 1200.  It was a direct bolt in with the stock dog bones.  It raised the rear of the bike about 1.25" which was perfect.  It is six way adjustable and far superior to the stock bandit shock.  Needless to say it has improved the handling of my bike greatly! It only cost me $45 on ebay.

The next mod I do to my 1G Bandit 1200 will be to raise the rear end to stop the pegs dragging on the ground.  I don't know if I will get a different shock or different dogbones, but you guys seem to say that different shocks are superior.
Could we start a list of the differnt shocks people have put in and what effect the had?  That would be a huge help!
