I have just finished the Dog Bone modification project detailed in the following thread.
http://forums.banditalley.net/viewtopic.php?t=199&highlight=dog+bones
After I completed the project I thought about the safety implications of this change. I purchased the Hot Rolled Carbon Steel from Home Depot. Does anyone know the tensile strength of this steel?
I noticed that Dale Walker's site says that his links use 1018 Hot rolled Carbon Steel. I looked this up -- it has a tensile strength of 70,000 psi.
Is all Hot Rolled Carbon steel basically the same (providing the thickness and size are the same)?
I don't know much about metalurgy.
Is this homemade modification safe? Opinions??

There's multiple grades and differing strengths. Perhaps you can find out from HD what alloy theirs is if you're really worried, but I probably wouldn't sweat it too much since some vendors make these out of aluminum - high strength alloys, of course, but still not as strong as cold-rolled steel alloys.
