Title: Double-bubble or touring windscreen (B1250)
Post by: ilrcflyboy on September 14, 2007, 07:07:35 PM
Dear fellow bandit owners!

I'm getting ready to order my first "farkle" for the new 1250, so it's time for a zero-gravity windscreen.

I'm curious if anyone has tried the double-bubble and/or touring wind screen and can recommend either.

I'm about 5'11" and would like to get the wind to hit mid visor or higher. I haven't raised the seat.....yet ;)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I'm 5'10", and have installed the Givi windscreen.  It's ~4" or so taller than stock, and has a lip at the top.  Wind hits the top of my helmet, but not the visor.  Wind flow is very smooth, but loud (which may be how it works with my helmet).  It is a big improvement over stock.  If I were to buy again, I would try the MRA vario screen first.  Only reason is that the Givi takes too much wind away when it is hot.  You might also try the Suzuki accessory screen, since it is much less expensive than the other options.

Zero Gravity and the Suzuki accessory screens are the two we know the least about, so if you end up with one, please let us know how it works for you, Flyboy.

In the meantime, here is my write-up on the MRA Vario Touring screen with pics:

That whole thread is worth reading. When you get ready to install the windscreen of your choice, this may help:

Also, some interesting discussion on the aerodynamic principals behind the design of these windscreens, may help with your research:

Wow! Great suggestions. Much appreciated. I'll write something up if I get one of the Zero Gravity screens

Good news and bad news....
Zero-gravity is getting ready to release a screen for the 1250 Bandit (2007). It appears as though the 01-06 screens won't work on the 07 from the.

The bad news: I need it like, now....So, perhaps we won't be getting the zg windscreen and providing any input.

Givi or MRA, here we come...

Just thought I'd add my comments for your consideration.

I followed ZenMan's lead and bought the Vario Touring screen (with the adjustable wing) and am very impressed at how effective it is. I don't think you would be disappointed.  :bigok:

William, thanks for the support for the Vario screen. I too purchased that one and have it "almost" installed. For some reason, the "stealership" decided that it would be fun to leave out one of the retaining bolts in the lower part of the fairing. I'm waiting for a new bolt and retainer to show up Tuesday.  :taz:

I installed a Givi screen. Is there anyone out there that has either ridden on a 1250 with the Givi and the Vario and can do a direct comparison. That would be interesting!

I've had the Givi on my 2.5G 1200 (same bodywork as the 3G 1250) for over a year now. I'm 6' exactly with a 33" inseam so am "normally" proprtioned. The Givi screen would need AT LEAST a 2" extension/flipup at the rear to make me completely happy re windflow. Unfortunately my Laminar Lip Touring model addon piece won't properly fit the Givi screen unless I were to heat it up and bend it somewhat. I may give this a shot yet.
In the meantime, I'm still searching for a "proper" (for me) screen for my 1200.
Having said all this, anyone 5'10" and shorter will be very pleased with the Givi, IMO.

I have a ZG touring and I'm not that impressed. Looks a bit better but the wind has just gone from my neck to my head..

I think it actually made the ride a bit louder. Seems to me like the only way to really take care of the wind is to get something really tall, and I just don't want to. So I'm sticking with the ZG touring.
