Title: Fairing to naked conversion - clock bracket
Post by: StangMATA on June 04, 2009, 11:11:04 PM
I'm not going to do a real naked conversion. I have my headlight issue mostly figured out but I'm trying to find a cheap way to mount the clocks.

03 1200S.

My thought is to make a piece of aluminum, bolt it up to the upper yoke where the bar mounts go through, and put a break in it to angle the gauges up. I won't be putting the full bullets on the back either.

Has anyone found a bracket online that works? I do not want to change the upper triple tree mount.

I few people here have made up what you describe...just out of a piece of aluminum I don't know of any bracket you could buy that might fit.

Thanks. I made a cardboard template today. Shouldn't be overly difficult...but I don't mind the easy way out either.

I'll post up what I end up doing. Hopefully it can help someone else out in the same boat.

I tried to find the old post about this but can't I actually pretty much copied someones from the site... and now I can't find the pic of it anymore. It wasn't hard to do, and was also very cheap so it was a no brainer for me.

If it would be possible to take a pic that would be outstanding!

Heres some pics of the bracket. I chose not to angle it, my understanding is that most people do though.

Wow, that bracket is pure BA  Too bad you arn't marketing them to the public, I'd take one express shipped.

Thanks for the pictures, I think you have changed my mind about how I am going to do mine.  :thanks:

Also, do you have the specs on those mirrors? Those look sharp too.

+1 on the mirrors!  Those look great!  Best looking bar-enders I've seen yet!!  :bigok: :beers: :thumb: :bandit:

they are GREAT mirrors, nice and clear and good quality with a slightly blueish mirror...sadly the price matches and I haven't replaced the one I lost in my low side (literally lost even went back a few days later but just couldn't find it anywhere)
Made by RIZOMA in Italy...same people I got my grips, signals and rearsets from. Bought them from http://www.pjsparts.com/ (http://www.pjsparts.com/) GREAT service am very happy with them.
As for the bracket before making it I was sure I'd at least trace out a template with some measurements to upload and share but then impatience got the better of me and it just had to be put on so I could ride. When I do my busa fork conversion in the next little while I'll see if I can't upload a decent template/pic of it. It's not in mint shape anymore due to (you guessed it) the lowside BUT it would still give some indication.

Thanks for the link.

I was just going to ask you if you had a CAD drawing of the bracket. Sucks that you don't. I just went out and ripped a couple of pieces of sheet metal only to figure out that it was too thin to start with.  :banghead:

I found this today and it might be a start...but it looks a bit basic for $28. It also looks like it bolts up to the side of the triple tree yoke and I'm not sure how I like that considering those bolts are recessed.

or since I bought these basic fork tube mounts I could mount it to those like so

I agree I think $28 is a bit steep, and I just cant quite picture it in place on a bandit, especially with the stock instruments.
I paid $12 or something along those lines for my piece of aluminum, it made my bracket, my headlight ears (both version 1 which I didn't like and Version 2) and some other little brackets.
I really wish I had a better template for you, it really wasn't hard at all. I used a jigsaw with a metal blade and did lots of filing to get it to the right shape. It just took time because of all the filing.

Thanks. I need to figure something out soon.

Here's a couple teasers of what is done so far

Hey, nice work on the bracket.

I did one a while back myself. I started out having it flat but once mounted it was obvious that it had to be lowered a mile or two before it looked any good.
