Bought a set of these to fit onto my 1997 1200 Bandit. Anyone ever fitted any before? If so from which bike did you source the inlet rubbers?

Don't know about 40's, but 38's will still fit the OEM manifolds - just more snugly.

Did you buy GSXR CV carbs?
I just ordered RS36 Mikuni's- RS36-D9K to be specific for my '05 B12S. I am gonna run mild .360 lift cams with them.
40mm CV carbs may be OK, but from what I have gathered, RS36's are ideal on a stock bore B12 without porting. RS38's if you are gonna do extensive engine mods- big bore w/porting. These are the mechanical slide race carbs - not CV carbs.

I have a set of 40mm flat slides to go on, but the engine is not stock (1216cc, skimmed and ported head, cams, Akrapovic exhaust).
I have got a set of 40mm GSXR CV carbs as well, but not going to use those.

I run RS36's on a stock 1990 1127 Katana motor in a 1989 600 Katana frame, and I do 9.4sec @ 143mph in the ¼( pic. of the bike to the left). I tell people the secret to life and a good strong moter is balance. Those carbs "might" be a little big for a 1216. Well thats my 2¢. Oh if they are and want to sell them let me know. (kind of slid that one in HUH) :grin: .

I spoke with the techs at both Orient Express and Pro Flo about carb size for my B12. Both said that the RS36's on a stock bore bike would be a better choice than the RS38's. The 36's should be much more streetable, the little you give up on top end to the 38's will be offset with much better midrange for a street ridden bike that will never see the drag strip. It's all about balance.
When I get the carbs fitted along with the GSXR cams I will post results.

They are wizzards. And also (I am getting old and can't remember much)
But I do recall something about a late 80's GSXR 750 intake boots that will let you fit the bigger carbs.

The GSXR 1100's came with 40cv carbs since the beginning of time here in Canada. It made a huge increase in HP over the I believe 36 that the US bikes had.

I have a set of 40mm GSXR1100 carbs sitting in the garage. Was going to use them, but went for the 40mm flat slides.

flatslides are better than the RS carbs due to the flatslides have a axcellerator pump! Cheers good choice bro!

There seems to be some confusion over flatslide carbs.
GSXR bikes came stock with CV flatslides, they use vacuum pressure to open and close the slides. The throttle controls the butterfly valve which allows vacuum pressure to regulate the slide. They do not have an acc. pump.
RS flatslides are the real thing- full aftermarket race carbs in the $600-$800 range new. They do not use vacuum pressure to open the slide, there is no butterfly valve. The throttle is connected directly to the slide itself for maximum response. RS carbs have the acc. pump.
CV carbs are good street carbs but RS carbs offer the most performance gains.

Found it! If you are having trouble fitting the carbs. I found this on Greg Copes racing engines web page
"Manifolds
For those of you who are planning on running 40mm Mikuni Radial Slide carbs on your '91-92' GSXR-1100 motors, use the intake manifolds from a 1988-89 GSXR-750 and match these to your intake ports."

Hey gang,
Any negative opinions on throttle return on the RSs? Since the slide is not on bearings, I understand they need a very strong spring for return. Not a drag bike problem, of course, but a real fatigue issue on the street. Solved with the Keihin brand but they're $400 more.
I'm thinking of adding some flatslides to my machine soon. Opinions???

Just got the carbs on and set up. Few things still to do (got a spare airbox to chop up to try and hide the pod filters, also need to sort the breather out properly).
Anyway, the throttle is VERY heavy and (using the stock cables and twist grip) has a long travel. This year I will be using it on the track (top speed runs in a few weeks, target is a genuine 170mph, without a fairing) so not worried, but to be honest I will probably go back to the stock carbs next winter.
