Title: Fork brace?
Post by: billster on August 27, 2005, 05:20:09 PM
Is anybody running a fork brace on their Gen2 B12?  Looking at Super Brace and HoleShot braces.  I used to always have them on my 70's Hondas and they made a world of difference.  Wondering if the improvement is as dramatic with these 43mm forks today?  The harder I push this beast the more 'flopping' I'm detecting in the front end especially on corner exits under acceleration.

This would augment the RaceTech Gold valve kit and Penske in the rear that I'm planning over the winter.

Cheers

I've got one on mine. it does seem to take a little bit of flex out. I put it on the same time as the lower motor mounts and it seemed to stiffen things up quite nicely.

Thanks guys....

Bottom motor mounts...from HS?  Good idea.  Anything to stiffen it up...*banned*?   :beers:

I've got the lower mounts from Suzuki (via ebay). These have a rubber bushing in them, so no real difference was noted by me in vibs or stiffness.

Put the Holeshot fork brace on Friday and did the big run up the canyon this morning and it was a noticeable difference. The long run through the sweepers felt good yesterday but the canyon run was deciding difference!

Heres mine on my 1G.  I don't notice that much of a difference but it does add to the "bling-bling" factor.

I'm waiting to hear you turbo'd your B12!  It's comin'..you know it!   :bigok:

That chrome brace's a fancy thing.  I think HS only has black for G2.  Black's fine by me.

Hey Bill,

I was looking at the settings on your front forks in your picture, where do you have them set now? That looked really squishy especially riding two up!

I don't know about the turbo I really enjoyed riding the T-Rex over the weekend but something about giving Mr. Turbo the same amount of cash that I spent on my bike sends chills up my spine. How about a shot of goofy gas instead “MORE THROTTLE FROM THE BOTTLE”!

Can imagine the fabrication needed to turbo up.  NOS much cheaper and wahoo!

This was the first day i had the B12....stock settings - three lines showing on the preload.  Stopping short was a bit harrowing two-up.

I'm showing 1 1/2 lines now.  Haven't had it two-up like this - I'm getting selfish....solo GP tail in the future?  I'd get killed.

"Viva Le Difference"

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't the first generation Bandits come from the factory set up with a fork brace? And to us poor folks that ride the second Gen bikes something like a fork brace would show a definite improvement wouldn’t it?

Terrebandit mentioned that he did not notice a difference, I guess I would not expect him to if it came factory with one but on a second-generation bike it shows a considerable improvement.

Sorry to bag on your Bling Man forgot about the first generation bikes!

You're kind of a smart A arn't you?  :monkeymoon:

My point is that I don't push my bike hard enough to tell much difference.  Its a well known fact that fork braces help the weak suspension, stiffness and handling of the bandit (1Gen and 2Gen).  Yeah, the 1Gens have a brace but its basically a piece of sheet metal.  It hardly compares to the hunk of metal I have on there now.

Kind of a smart A is putting it lightly!  :thanks:

I happen to run with a crowd that likes to take it to the limit and a little beyond so, when I added the fork brace it seemed to make a considerable difference when running the canyons. Still can't hang with the big boys but every little bit helps!

I dont think its a question of being a smarta$$.....The man has done
an improvement to his bike and is passing on his experiance. Thats
what the board is about.
If your not an agressive rider - check out a different forum, like
lighted valve stems or luggage racks. Dont cap the guy for what
he's sharing. Thats just my .02

This is what he said and this is what I had an issue with after I gave MY opinion on fork braces.  Why don't you relax and mind your own business?   :monkeymoon:

Dave,

Read Bills first sentence; He was asking about a fork brace for a second generation B12 that's part of the reason I bagged you!

I'd rather kick him in the head, looking at bikes and cars is not a bad thing it's not like I'm looking at tits. Besides do you know how difficult it is to look up things on the NET when vehicles are blocked by the firewall especially when you work for an aerospace company!

In case you didn't know or hadn't figured it out, I'm employed by the aerospace industry, too.
I'm an Airworthiness Inspector for Boeing. Currently working on 777's, but have worked 737, 747, 757 & 767 programs, too.
