My gas tank is leaking via the vent line (inside the tank) - the line is a welded tube that apparently did not weld well when made...so the weld seam leaks......this lets fuel leak into the vent line and out on the ground...took me a while to find.....I fixed it for a while..used Kreem fuel tank sealer...lasted a few months, but now leaking again......thinking about trying to put a tube inside the existing tube......anybody out there have this problem and a solution??

On the 1200's (and 600's with the gas gauge or it's plate), you can remove the sending unit and get inside the tank to repair/replace the vent line.

thanks for response - I pulled the sending unit...that's how I found the problem originally.....can't really get to the part of the tube with the broken seam (it is right inside the tank at the lower right, where the tube exits...about 3" of bad seam). Had to use small flexible mirror to even see the problem. The vent line, as near as I can tell, is soldered or welded to the tank at both ends. I don't think I can replace the line (but maybe someone has done it??). That is why I am thinking of trying to find a plastic line I can put inside the existing tube, then seal the exit. But I am still hoping someone out there has solved this problem.

The problem has been addressed here before, but I can't remember if it was done on this version of the board or one of the earlier ones. You can try the search feature and if that doesn't work out, start hunting thru some of the oldest posts on the board... I can't remember what the guy did to fix it.

Landshark had a similar problem with is bandit. In his case, the hose that is suppose to drain excess water from around the tank fill was cracked and it runs through the tank... so he was dumping lots of gas out his drain tube. Endedup getting some JB weld around the cracked piece of pipe, that seemed to hold, and to this day hasn't had any trouble. so you might be able to smear some JB weld on it and hope for the best!
