GIVI Engine guards only fit 00 and 01 1200S?
« on: August 28, 2009, 12:33:34 PM »
So I have been reading a lot on here, but this is probably my first post.  Anyway I am trying to mount a set of pegs on an engine guard sort of a highway peg I guess.  (knee surgery)  Reason for this is I am planning on doing an iron butt.   So here is my question.  Does anyone know why the GIVI website would say that their engine guards will only fit a 2000 and 2001 model?  I am confused as to what the reason would be.  I have a 2004.  I thought the frames are the same?

Also does anyone know if the framesliders on the Holeshot site could be used to rest your foot against for a minute or two at a time?  Thanks,

Fred

IIRC, the Givi case guards are designed to fit B12's with the lower engine mounts, something the US market bikes don't have (and 2G CDN B12's, too, but 1G CDN B12's DO have 'em).  You can still install them on a bike without the mounts, but you'll need to come up with your own spacer to make up for the lack of lower engine mounts - or get a set of them somehow.

It seems a lot of Euro sites screw up the years between Bandit generations, but if they truely DO fit a 2001, they will fit any 2G B12, all the way thru 2005.  The frames between a 1G B12 (2000 and older) and a 2G are different, but AFAIK, there's no difference in those points where they mount the Givi guards, so their site is probably not as inclusive as it should be.

I didn't realize that.  That makes sense.  The other weird thing is that if you look at the canadian site, it states under the engine guard section that it fits 2000-2007.  That is pretty screwed up.  LOL.  So now I am wondering if I would be able to rest my foot sometimes on the Holeshot frame sliders.
