After a fair bit of trial and error I have finally achieved my goal by fitting a GSXR1000 shock to my 1G bandit and respringing it with Eibach springs front and back with gold valved in the front. I have lost my centrestand which is not so painful and I have not had to grind anything off any linkages and the whole thing is reversable for resale if nescessary. Now I have a far superior ride that has made the exercise all worth it.
anyone interested?

Will a gsx1000 rear shock bolt on to a 2G bandit...like the busa shock most of you have...and will this rear shock provide better handling?

Hopefully, 737 will respond with more info, but if it fits the 1G it ought to fit onto the 2G about the same. The important thing will be the length. The 2G uses a 20mm longer shock than the 1G. The Busa shock is 10mm longer than the 2G shock - therefore raises the tail of a 2G ~1.25". If the GSXR1K shock is the same length as the 1G shock, it will lower a 2G by ~2.5" at the tail light, which is too much for most street riders who aren't seriously inot drag racing.
