Title: Help with with shock choice.
Post by: socalbandit on February 13, 2006, 12:14:41 AM
I have a 1998 1200s that I just acquired.  I was ridden by a 340lb guy since he bought it new.  So I figure the suspension is toast.  I weigh 250 with gear on.  I like to go pretty quick in the corners, but also will be touring on the bike(going from San Diego to Alaska and back this summer).  I will also do the occasional track day with the bike.  I am planning on Racetech fork springs with gold valves.  I am torn between the Progressive and an Ohlins.  The Ohlins is more, but has a remote hydaulic preload adjuster along with compression and rebound dampning.  I will not be doing any 2 up riding, but with how much luggage I plan on putting on the bike for long road trips, its about the same as having a person on back with me.

I have a Works Performance for mine that s pretty sweet. The Fox double clikcker and Penske are both good choices. I have both the WP and a GSX-R shock. The WP is definatly smoother and I use that for normal and riding w/ a pasenger. The gsx-r gives me a 1 1/2" rise in the back wich helps w/ ground clearence at the track.
I'm sure the Ohlins is top of the line, but probably the most $ too. They all mke a couple of choices to choose from. I spent $500. bucks on mine w/ shipping charges. And I did the Race Tech gold valves and springs in the forks too. That ran about $300 and I did it myself.
