I'm currently running Metzler Z-6's and have a question about inflation.  Do you guys follow the PSI specs that are given in the bike's manual or does tire pressure change from tire to tire?

From tire to tire, from bike to bike, from one riding style to another... even temperature.
There are many factors.  I consider the psi the factory recommends as a starting point.

A very good starting point. If you're the type that's reluctant to experiment around, stick with the sticker.

In older days of bias ply tires we often looked for a cold to hot pressure rise of about 10%, indicating the tire was flexing and generating enough heat to raise the pressure that amount.

I believe, after a conversatinon with the Michelin rep. at a recent trade show, that radials probably don't generate as much heat and the number should probably be closer to a 5% rise is pressure.

This seems to be true for my Bandit 1200 with Metzeler ME880 radials, at least in the summer weather.

When I spoke with my mechanic re the low milage I got out of the M1 rear he suggested that any of the Sports - Sports/Touring Metzlers should be run at 40psi, with the front at 36psi.  Then, with a glint in his eye, said "if your on a track day/racing go down at least 4psi from stock pressures".

I set the pressure at 34 F and 36 R right out of the Metz guide. Feels great and seems to wearing well.

I sent an e-mail to Metzler with this question and here's what they replied with:

min 32 front 36 rear. best mileage would be with 38 to 40 front and 40 to 42
rear. ride safe.

Wow, thats good, have just got my new Z6 on the front now and had the read Z6 fitted over a week ago and was going to post an enquiry on tyre pressures. this is mint dont need to wait now! :beers:

42 psi rear dry conditions dropped to 40 psi in wet and cold conditions,
38 psi front dry conditions dropped to 36 psi in wet and cold conditions.

I may drop another 2 psi out of front and rear when and not to often when its really cold frosty mornings 0 - 2 degrees c. But I find that half way through the day I have to put a couple of psi back in, starts to feel like I;m riding on sponge rubber.
Foot loose and fancy free.
