Title: It is starting.....
Post by: Fordtech on March 14, 2010, 04:28:01 PM
Went to my local guy here the other day to order new rear frame covers. The originals have some missing pegs
etc. One mounting tab under seat broken.
Guess what? Suzuki considers them obsloete now.
Bike is a 99 B12, so to all who have Gen 1's watch out!!! Just a heads up people.

Pretty much 10 years is all you can expect for parts on just about any type of motor vehicle.  Time to upgrade?

Trouble is.....if I did that it would be a 'Busa.......and that is considered "High Risk"
by the gov't run no fault insurance.....which means my plates will double in price..
Besides......The Bandit for me has been a GREAT bike. Never had trouble with it........
Stone reliable....I have to replace the fuel gauge bulb....after 11 years of service. Almost
100,000 km's...can't really argue with that.

Banditmania in the UK still offers custom ones for the 1G Bandits.

Trouble is Banditmania does not offer the plastic pieces that cover the frame from fuel tank to tail light.
The long pieces...with the mounting pegs. That usually cost around 150$ per side. Does not seem to be much OEM plastic out there.

You can try ebay, once in awhile some body work will come up. It might not be the same color though, thats why my 98 got a custom paint job. The tail plastics on the 1st gen could have defitatly been designed better. I had to improvise using plastic weld and pcs of plastic on the inside. I even had to resort to a stitch or to with stainless safety wire! As its at the body shop now, I should probably take a good look at it and see if I need to make improvments befor he paints them.

Yeah I checked e-bay....found 2, in worse shape and wrong colour too.
With the undertail I bought the kit included some glue to stick the OE body to the
"center" piece at the back.......I don't know what this stuff is.....but OMG does it work well.
I repaired the broken tab at the back of fuel tank. Missing "pegs at the front...but still have
middle on both sides. It will have to do for now.....besides it does look just like stock.
 :beers:

I was using epoxy plastic weld. It works good too. It chemicaly melts right in. And where the front turn signal holes were, my body guy (I did his tile and did a marble back porch) took plactic and closed them up befor painting over them . You'd never know the holes were there, and I have smaller cat-eye signals I mounted on the bottom of the front side panels. I'm looking foward to seeing it done again this time around. (He still owes me for the marble patio) Plus I'm also looking foward to getting it back on the road! I usally use the Bandit for my running around bike. Although one of the bikes may have to go for school taxes, I sure would like to ride them in the mean time. (maybe I'll hit a windfall or something. Or just some real good jobs!)  Dan
