Swap 600 wheel for 1200 wheel?
« on: November 12, 2005, 05:40:12 PM »
I have a 1G 600 Bandit and want to swap the rear wheel for that of a 1G 1200 (to give me a wider tyre). Is it just a case of sourcing a 1200 wheel and I can use the existing chain/sprocket and swingarm, rear brake disc and caliper from my 600 etc.?

Thanks in advance

Why do you want a wider tyre?
So your bike will be as slow as a B12 in the corners?

I'm not sure if the B12 wheel fits in the B6 swingarm, but I know it'll work with a B12 swingarm - and the B12 swingarm WILL fit the B6.

All the wider tyre will get you is poser value - and more expensive rear tyres.

If you want a muscular back tyre, get a Rocket III. No one will notice a few mm added on your rear section except you, when you realise your bike don't handle no more! Don't do it!      :bigok:

The B12 rim is gonna be 1 in wider and will probably fit. How wide a tire is the question. The limiting factor is how wide will the swingarm allow. Also, you may run into problems with sprocket/chain alignment as the rear sprocket usually sits out further on a 5.5 inch wheel.

You are not gaining anything by going larger on a B6, Unless you hang a B12 motor on your bike, you have plenty of rubber.  A 4.5in/160 rear combo is healthy for a air/oil cooled 600.

I am putting a 4.5inch Katana 750 rear on my 1983 GS750ED. That size rear will handle over 100hp on a 750cc hot rod.

Buy premium rubber instead and save the headaches.
