Leaking front suspension...
« on: August 11, 2005, 09:44:59 AM »
Hi all,
I've replaced the seal twice already and still the leak comes back, i think i have a problem with the inner tube of the suspension... i can't see the scratches but that doesn't mean they are not there... maybe it's bent from a crash... i bought it second hand...
someone told me that there is a way to cot the tube to repair the scratches?! is that possible?
Thanks.

There are processes out there that can recoat your fork tubes, but I can't think of what they're called right now. Don't know what it would cost either, but I can't imagine that it's cheap since they'd be dealing with heavy metals and other HazMat. Might be just as cost effective to replace the tubes.

Forking by Frank offers the only aftermarket fork tubes I'm aware of, or there's new OEM or used salvage parts.

I would have a reputable shop do the job or send to race tech.  They can check your tubes for trueness and scratches.  Your forks are used?  A previous owner probably tried to remove the seals by prying with a screwdriver.  Hope all works out well.
