Need info on 2002 B600 speed sensor
« on: June 09, 2005, 01:33:04 PM »
Does anyone know the pulse per mile (or kilometer) of the speed sensor on the 2002 Bandit 600?

I am installing a universal electronic cruise control, but I need to know the ppm (ppk) of the speed sensor.  The factory service manual does not say.

 :thanks:

Shouldn't be too hard to figure out. You'll need to know the circuference of the rear tire to figure out how many tire revolutions there are in a mile, then divide that by the gear ratio of your sprockets to figure out how many times the front sprocket turns in a mile.
There's one pulse per countershaft sprocket rotation.

Actually there are 4 pulses per front sprocket rotation - the service manual shows a picture and there are 4 cut-outs that pass over the Hall-effect sensor.

I was hoping to avoid the math, if someone already knew the answer (why re-invent the wheel, right?).  Guess I know what I need to do this weekend.

Ok, I am r-e-a-l-l-y s-l-o-w working on projects   .  I never finished the cruise control install last year, but I going to finish it this weekend.

I figured out the pulses per mile for this project:

Rear Tire = BT56 (24.9 inch diameter according to BFG's website)
Pulse ratio = 12.6 pulses/rear tire revolution
Pulses per mile = 10206

Of course, this doesn't take into account the change in diameter when in motion with a rider, so I looked at what the pulse/mile would be if the diameter was smaller:  23.9 inch diameter = 10632 pulses/mile

The universal cruise control has dip switches that allow you to tell the cruise control how many pulses/mile it sees.  There is a finite number of settings and the 10,000 rev/mile setting will have to do.

I have the unit installed, and all I need to due this weekend is finish the wiring and test it out.  If anyone would like details, I have pic's I can post or e-mail.
