I realize that by adding the Diamond lowering links on my wife's 600, I now have to shorten both the centre-stand and side-stand. I plan on cutting and re-welding the foot on, but does anyone know the precise amount I should cut given a 2" longer dogbone? What does a 2" longer link mean in term of vertical seat height reduction?

Uh, 2" longer dogbones???
That should change the seat height by something like 16 inches.
Usually you only change the link lenths by fractions of an inch. Unually 1/4" longer/shorter will raise or lower the rear of the bike by 1.5-2".
If you are saying the bike is 2" lower, I would take out 1/4-1/2" of sidestand. It's easier to take more out than ad some back in!

I just went thru this with my 2nd gen 1200/S. The side stand is an easy fix. Just heat and bend. I did it while still mounted. Used a oxy/acet torch and heated the middle of the stand while leaning the bike over till I was satisfied with the lean angle. Removed the stand and repainted with Rust-Oleum Industrial spray-on primer and satin black from Home Depot. The center stand is much more difficult, requiring careful cutting and welding.
