Title: Progressive 420 on Gen 2 B6

Hi,

I found new progressive 420-1050 for 350 bucks, which is well below what I see on most other sites.  However, progressive's site lists this shock for B12, not B6.  Does anyone have experience installing these?  Dale at holeshot sells them for B6, but I believe there may be some modifications involved.

Vadim: Need a little more info. What year B12 and what year B6? The B12 shock will raise the rear of the bike and give you a stiffer ride.

I have a 2001 B6 (Second Generation).  It appears that Dale sells essentially the same shock, but I think there may be a different spring:

2000+ Bandit 600  Part No. 420-1050-6  $429.00  
2001+ Bandit 1200 Part No. 420-1050  $449.95

I also think that he may be including some spacers in his shock - not quite sure.  Just trying to see if I should take my chances with the 420-1050 for the 80 dollar difference.

It could be 250, but if it's not right for my bike that's 250 wasted dollars... :)

According to Dale W, the wider spring in the progressive shock will rub against the dogbones of B6.  The side by side comparison of the shocks definitely confirms it:

So the question now is... can I put spacers between the rear cusion lever and the dog bones to increase clearance for the spring without sacrificing the structural integrity of the setup?

The progressive spring is 51mm in diamater.  I don't know about the OEM one.   My bike's in storage so I can't even look at it...

I do plan to keep the bike for at least another 3 years, so the investment is worth it for me.  

What you are saying about the spacer makes sense.  I am trying to find out what Dale did to make the shock work for the B6.  Of course he won't tell me :)  

I am not very comfortable getting a used shock as there's no way to say how many miles it has and I am in no way qualified to judge...  so we'll see.  I have two more months before I get my bike out of storage, maybe I'll dig something up.

That company is a big ripp off and a bunch of A@#$$holes.   They sent me an exhaust and that was bent wrong and will not line up properly.  They would not do anything to help me at all and would not let me talk to any supervisor at all.

Just for your info.I bought a rear for a GSXR 750 used off of ebay...to go on a bandit 1200. Had it taken apart to replace fluid and charge the cylinder. Only mod was grinding a bit off the bottom to fit the linkage piece. Routed the hose along the frame rail and the reservoir sits under the seat...very clean install. Lotta adjustments on it though.BE PREPARED!!!!!!!!!! I think a stiffer spring would be good, bu the back end is more controlled...my stock one was whipped.......
