Has anyone tried the R6 shock on a 1G 1200? I was looking at the chart and it is very close in length and stroke, has remote resivoir. Very cheap on the bay, thought i might give it a try. Mine is ok one up but too soft on a 2 up even on the highest setting. Have progressives in the front already.

i got one in to try, 30 bucks delivered so low risk move. i am gathering parts to do a shock replace, jet kit, airbox mod, slip on, at the same time as it all lives in the same neighborhood and the work should compliment each other.
will post when the shock is in as it seems to be a good alternative for us 1G folks. :bandit:

nope, wrong sex. won't work. best is 07 gsxr 1000, ebay 30-50 bucks works good, check maximum suzuki forums for info.

basically 07 or 08 gsxr 1000 shock, needs a couple of washers and that's about it.

GSXR-1000 Shock Swap Success

Anyways--handling compared to the OEM shock is absolutely NO COMPARISON!!!---can't believe I left that new shock on the shelf that long and didnt swap it out--love it.
I still have to dial it in--I was not sure where a 200lb rider needs to put the setings so I put evrything at 10 clicks which is about exactly in the middle and I set the spring pre-load nuts at halfway up the shaft also. SO everything is right in the middle for now and will adjust out from there.
DID notice right off the tail sits about 1.5 to 2" higher--and I also cut off most of the rear fender while tail was apart and easy to get to and that helps the looks a good bit.
ANybody in same weight category (200-210lbs in full gear) that does commuting with moderate sporting let me know where you set yours on same shock...thanks DOUG

99 B-12, DW Holeshot Stage 1 carb kit/ign adv./and pipe. Corbin seat, napolean black mirrors, shorty signals, front fender extender, projector fog lights, and a '07 GSXR-1000 rear shock sitting in the garage waiting for a rainy day to be installed.

I will keep that in the back of my mind the next time i need to swap out my rear shock, or a Busa one.

I have a 96 B6 and the Busa shock swap often talk about on here simply will not fit with out significant modification. My 07 GSXR shock dropped in easily. Only modifications were trimming of the fender liner/under tray forward of the battery box section and a couple washers on each side and end of the dog bones. This spaces the dog bones out just a bit since the spring diameter is a bit larger than the OEM B6 shock.
It will raise the rear of the bike. Personally I like the result and did not find it drastic at all since I am 6' 2" and do not have an issue putting my feet down. I feel like the bike is physically the correct size for me now even though the only thing that changed was seat height and ground clearance. If you are shorter you may need a set of longer lowering dog bones. I have had no problems with darty handling or instability. Honestly I think handling was improved drastically but I was used to the completely useless blown stock B6 shock.

I gave away the stock shock years ago to a B6 member. I have a GSX-R 1100 shock,but although a big improvement,I wasn't really impressed.(raised the rear 1 1/2") Then I bought a Works Performance shock witch kept the stock ride height.But I also made a set of bones and drilled the holes 4mm shorter to raise the back 1 3/4". (was shooting for 1 1/2") It is non adjustable compression dampening and I sent it back for a stiffer spring for stiffer preload and had them add more compression.With the shipping back & fourth I had about $500.+ into it.
Now this coming winter I might save my nickels & dimes and get a Penske shock w/ addjustable ride height and fully adjustable compression as well as the rebound. (that's about $800.worth of nickels & dimes :yikes:) I have the race Tech gold valves and springs in the forks. Ohlins is just under a grand!
This winter I'll do a strip down,powder coat the frame & wheels,new bearings all around and don't know what else yet. I might need to win some $ or something. Dan

just installed a 92 GSXR shock on my b6 yesterday, had to shave a bit off the spacer with the belt sander but that was all
