I thought this would be a good place for us to post our different ideas and/or pics on modding the rear fender on our bikes. A lot of folks (like me) aren't happy with the stock rear fender, they tend to be too fat, or too long... and the B1250 is no exception.
Some folks like to do away with the fender altogether and install an undertray, others like to "bob" it real close and do away with the license plate bracket, and relocate the turn signals. Personally, I want a shorter rear fender, but I like to retain the bracket with the side reflectors, and leave the turn signals where they are. Here's what I did.
First, I removed the license plate bracket. I used masking tape to create the lines along where I wanted to cut, then took my angle grinder and whacked off about 8". After dressing up the edge with sandpaper, I drilled two holes an inch and a half above the original bracket holes and relocated it up under the light assembly:

I tried to continue the lines of the fender with the cut:

I know ya'll are looking at my "chicken strips"... The bike only had about 200 miles on her, and I was riding with a torn rotator cuff. Since then I've had shoulder surgery and I'm almost healed up now. Don't worry, those strips will be gone after Im back in the saddle a few days.
And here's what it looks like from a few steps back:

I like it- looks better for sure. I want to see a few with the undertails and decide what I plan to do then.

Yeah, I like the clean, sharp look of the no-fender/undertray too. I'd definitely go for it if I was modding this bike for pure sport/performance. :bigok:
But since I'm going the sport-tourer direction with this one, it'll have soft bags and tailrack on it soon. So you wouldn't see as much of the rear fender anyway, and I won't need to mess with the turn signals and reflectors.
But just for the helluvit, here's a photoshop with the fender gone and the muffler shortened 6 inches:

Of course, where to put the turn signals and license plate is another matter...
-
Anybody else done any rear fender mods yet? Undertrays, turn signals, etc.?
Doesn't have to b a B1250... I'd like to see any Bandit fender mod pics, the more the merrier...

I'm going the other way - keeping the stock fender for reducing the level of muck flung off the tyres and added a fenda extenda to the front to stop crud plastering the downpipes and causing early corrosion.

For a while, I had a stainless steel undertray that had its own plate holder, but it was a royal PIA to keep clean, so I went back to the stock piece and sold the bling.

Nice assend cruise

Hey, Stang...what's that little "plate" under your plate?
-
My guess, a military base pass. :thanks:
-
My guess is a state inspection sticker.
Base passes are usually stuck to the fork leg... like this:

Red01 is right. Texas has the inspection under the plate. It's a strange setup...
...and he is also right about the base pass. Gotta mount it on the front forks (or the tank, windscreen, frame....well, I guess it doesn't matter  )
