Does anyone else really like the smell of new tires? I always enjoy walking into a tire shop and taking a breath of that fresh black rubber.
The past several mornings on my commute, I have been running into a cloud of new tire smell. At first it was disconcerting; I wondered whose tires were melting off their wheels. Finally I decided there must be a warehouse full of tires nearby. (In "Amercan's Distribution Center", there's a warehouse full of everything...see below for more.) So today I saw piles of tires outside on place, way AFTER I hit the smell, so the entire warehouse must be full of 'em. The looked like they were designed for big equipment (like mine, har har) rather than cars.
The Disney Store, Barnes and Noble online, Hallmark Flowers, etc. all ship from here. Many of the CDs and DVDs you buy are packaged here for distribution...I sometimes see a load of insert booklets in the road where they excess was being trashed and fell out of the truck. One of the most serendipitous moments are going home past Blythe HomeScents where there must be the occasional potpourri spill inside...you suddenly hit a wall of magnolia (or other floral) scent that about knocks you off the bike.
So while I enjoy a lot of great odors on my commutes, I also ride amoungst a lot of 18-wheelers, which is not so much fun.
