Pirelli or Metzeler
« on: October 17, 2005, 03:06:36 AM »
Im looking to get 2 new tires for my bandit.

I want a tire that I can fly around corners, but not have it wear out immediatly when commuting.

I was thinking the Metzeler Roadtec Z6 was the tire I should try, but Im afraid it might be more touring than sporty.

Then that thread on the Pirelli Diablo Strada caught my attention and I was about to buy that one. Im torn, and wanted to know the advantage/disadvantage to either one,  or maybe there's a different tire I should look at.  Also are these both more rounded) or triangular>

I believe the Strada is aimed at the same kind of market as the Z6... a sport-touring tire. That's all I can offer though, I have no experience with either one. I've been happy with my Michelin Pilot Roads.

I run either on my Bandit. Buy which ever ones you can get the best deal on.  Pirelli owns Metzler both are exelent tires, in fact my Stratas say made in Germany on the sidewall. As far as sticktion all I can say is boy are you going to be plesently suprized they stick great , way better than Dunlop 220, Mich Mac 100 and Bridgestone 020's.

+1

Those 2 tires are almost identical in design & construction.  When I was shopping for tires I found I could get the Pirelli's for about $15-20 less, however.

I have the Pirelli Diablo Corsa on my B12S and they're awesome! They stick great, I'm sure the Strada will be an awesome tire...

I've heard alot of good about the Metzler too. Personal preference at this point. I agree with taking the lower priced one, I'm partial to pirelli anyway.

Good luck and have fun!

I currently have a Z6 on the front and waiting for the rear to wear out before I install it.  So far I love it and it definitely has changed how the bike handles.

I run a MEZ4 on the rear and a M1 on the front, wonderful tyres and I have absolutely no complaints

But then again I've haven't heard to many bad things about the Pirelli either.

Now if B6Mick was to resond, I'm sure he say "Save ya money bloke...buy Shinko's"

I must admit I'm tempted to try them next time round....

Paul,

What kind of mileage are you getting out of the Michelin Pilot Roads?  Are they sticky enough for the riding that you like to do?  I am considering the Pirelli'a Stradas/EMS or the Pilot Powers, or Roads.....still deciding.

I'm getting ~10K miles out of the rears and ~15K out of the fronts. I'm currently on my second front and third rear. They've been working perfectly for the riding I do and seem to be wearing better than the Avons my riding partner (also on a 2G B12) uses - and both our styles are close to the same.

OTOH, he had the PR's before and switched to the Avons to try them out and likes them well enough to have put a second set on, but has been thinking about something else when these wear out.

I would describe my style as brisk, but well short of anything you might label as race-pace. I don't want to fall down and scratch up my bike or my body. Rarely do I exceed double the recommended speed of a corner warning sign, usually just shy of double.

Although I am sure you are a better rider than I am, and you probably forgot more about motorcycles, than I will ever know, I feel my style is about what yours is.  A brisk, quick pace, but not race like either.   I want to keep my bike and body in one piece, if I can help it!  About double the recommended speed limit fo the corners, if that.  If they stick and wear good that is a plus.  I had the Avon's on my old B6 and they wear sticking and wearing well.  When the stock BT 020 wear out, I am going with either the Pilot Roads or the Stradas/ EMS.

I've used the Z6s and have the Stradas on currently. I think the grip is/was pretty good on both tires. The profile is different though. The Z6s have a more angular profile, which makes the bike want to corner and can be "confidence inspiring", while the Stradas are much more rounded. I perfer the Stradas as they allow me to put the bike at any angle intead of flipping me into one position, much smoother...
I think I got about 5k out of my Z6s.
