Lowering front end
« on: November 21, 2005, 06:45:53 PM »
I think I understand the basic principal that if you raise the rear of the bike you will quicken the streering.  My question is, since I am 5'6" and can't go an extra 1" - 1.5", can I raise the fork tubes and lower the front by 1"?  I wouldn't mind a quicker steering bike and would really love to get a little more of my foot on the ground.  Will this alter the steering geometery too much?

 :thanks: in advance!

No, it makes the bike steer more like a sport bike. I lowered my '05 by 1.5 inches to mount the pictured clip-ons above the top triple. I am very happy with the results.

Raising the tubes in the triples is an old trick used to make a bike steer quicker. The Bandit is very conserative as far as rake/trail, you will have no problems.

Good Luck, Ed.

I can see if there any torque specs in the haynes manual, but not until I get home later this evening...I plan to tackle this project along with a slew of other things in the spring if I can't get any time this winter.  I still ride, mind you, but have been working extra lately.

I rode Saturday, temp was about 30 Deg. F. Nice and balmy!

Fork top bolts......................23 Nm
Fork clamp bolt (top & bot)...23 Nm

I'll have to leave the other part of the question unanswered due to the fact that I have not performed this yet.
