I just put a modified Ural chassis on my Bandit 600. Haven't had a
chance to do more than a brief test ride, but it actually works pretty
well. Barely perceptible wobble around 5 mph, but not bad at all,
seems to corner ok and be fairly neutral up to 60 mph.
I set it up with 1/8" toe in,61" from outside tire to outside sidecar
tire, a little over 15" lead and eyeballed the lean out.

I am going to set up two Bandits this way and hope to get a couple of
KLRs done with dualsport style sidecars. These bikes are for the
Adventure Sidecar S/TEP classes- the first one is the weekend of May
6th, so I have been really hustling to get these rigs up! Last I
checked there were still 6 openings for the May class-go here to get
info about the classes and how to register:

I just got the Urals on the Bandits. They are back at Joel's for some modifications to the mounts and repainting, but so far I am happy with them. Rode the yellow one to work the other day and took some pictures on the way home. I will be using these rigs in the S/TEP sidecar classes this summer. The street tires on the Bandits didn't work real well for the braking exercises on the grass lot i am using for the class so I put Kenda K270 on the back and a Cheng Shen Trials tire up front. Off pavement control is much improved though they do look a little odd on these crotch rockets :-)

These sidecar rigs are incredibly fun to ride. Should work great for the classes!

It becomes obvious that it won't take too long flogging these things across the field before I will need to attend to the airfilter-any helpful hints?

VW - Just looking thru your site about the KLR hack... how's that working out?
My son-in-law just bought a KLR and he was telling me it specifically said in the OM not to mount a hack to this machine... why would they say that?
I did notice the KLR seemed to loose a lot of ground clearance with the mount setup you've got on it.

So far the KLR is my favorite for the class work-very docile with plenty of oomph to pull the hack. Most manufacturers will tell you not to mount sidecars to thier machines, tho most bikes can be made to work. The KLR is pretty cheesey when you look at how it is put together. Adequate, but just. That is one of the reasons it is so inexpensive. Mounting a sidecar to it requires some imagination and some bracing.
My black KLR was lowered by the previous owner, plus i think the rear shock may have lost it's nitrogen, so it sits pretty low. My subframe also ended up being a little too tall, further reducing the ground clearance. Even so, we didn't find it scraping the dirt out in the field, even with two heavyset adults aboard it. I hope to make some changes to improve the clearance whe I get an opportunity.
I have a blue KLR with mounts provided by Dauntless Motors http://www.dauntlessmotors.com/sidecars.htm which are a much tighter fit. I expect that rig will have much more ground clearance when I finish building it.

Very, very cool! My father-in-law used to race bikes and sidecars on grassy fields back in England about 70 years ago so I really enjoyed your pics.
Cool how Oregon looks similar to Canada in a lot of shots. Been through once last summer and really enjoyed it.
I'm jealous of your mechanical ability!
