I have a 1st gen b-12. Latley I have been inspired to possible swap out my sub frame for another bikes. I have zero knowledge of sub frames. Im at work now and cant see my bandit, so please humor me a little. Does the subframe bolt on or is it welded? I would assume its steel and not aluminum. Any direct bolt ons if they do bolt on. If not is there any particular bikes that have subframes that are easiest to weld on? I would asssume that if you want to add an aluminum subframe to a steel framed bandit you would have to weld steel tabs to bandit and bolt on aluminum sub frame? Any ideas. I have seen the beautiful work a few of our fellow banditalley hoodlums have done with their bike. :beers:

Stock subframe is welded on, so anything you do to change it will involve fab skills.

Hey roamr,
There are actually uite a few different options. There is a company in the UK call f1moto.
Here is their gallery link http://www.f1moto.co.uk/
They make subframe kits for the Gen 1 bandits swapping to the following.
MV Augusta, Yamaha R1, sv-650, and quite a few others.
You will almost 100% positively have to cut your existing subframe off. Unless you have some serious skills in metal work and can just modify the current frame.
Don't know if this helps you, but it gave me some great ideas of where I wanted to go with mine (Gen 2).
Thank god my friend had the skills and access to a lot of the tools needed.
Later.

I just removed (cut) the original and aquired a Ducati Monster sub frame (heavy), I ended up building my own out of aluminum. Sorry no pictures yet, working on the wiring harness now, will eliminate anything not being used. Goal is 400lbs wet?

I bet if you use aluminum subframing and drop some weight with the stock exhaust, you can get it to 400 lbs. I have not weighed mine, but would bet it is pretty close with the full hindle system and the aluminum subframe (that steel stock subframe has got to be 25 lbs.) What a hunk of metal.

Full Ti exhaust system (Akrapovic) is in the works as are Magnesium wheels, probably Dymag or lace up a set of motard wheels. Building a new battery box for the smaller battery.
