tire time

it's time to replace my 8 year old tires. mileage isn't an issue i'd like'em to go a season or two. i don't think my bandit inspire confidence like my old ninjas do some of that is the seating position but mostly it's the tires. what's the best tire to make the bandit turn?

You'd have to define a "season" a little better. I only get 1 season out of a set of Sport Touring tires (about 7-8000 miles/11-13000 kms).

Assuming you want better cornering grip, as the expense of tire life, then any good sport tire will work, like Michelin Pilot Power 2CT, Bridgestone BT-014, etc. Expect about 3-4000 mile life?

I heard some folks griping about the grip on those - seems like they get a little greasy much earlier than regular Powers... although these guys are pretty agressive riders on the street.  I still like the regular Powers but only when I'm headed out for some twisties.... too expensive for slab work.

I've gone through two sets of Powers and I'm working on a set of 2 CT's no grease here!!! Does get a little spendy going through a rear about every time you do an oil change!!

The Pilot Power 2CT is absolutely great, dry and wet until the very end of it's life, which is about 4000 km on my 400. But today I've changed to Bridgestone BT-016, these are absolute killer tires, more grip than the 2CT's on dry roads at about 20 degrees centigrade. They give even more confidence and better drive while sticking to it's line all the way. But after about 40 kilometers the front tire already shows wear and tear on the sides and I haven't tested them on wet roads yet. They steer like a worn 2CT the first bit but as soon as the bike is leant over the steering speed improved rappidly, gives more control as a new 2CT and somehow flipping the bike is easier. At about the same price as a Pilot Power 2CT I'd recommend anyone who wants the best street tire to give them a try :motorsmile:

My tires were original.  In fact, the DOT date code was 1999 on the one and 2001 on the other.(DOH!)  And the front Macrapadam was badly cupped causing severe head shake (along with a loose steering stem nut).
