Different Levers...Break & Clutch
« on: November 08, 2005, 04:23:32 AM »
Long story short, tiped My 01 B6s...( kick stand misshap ).  Broke off the knob on the clutch lever.  So I want to replace it, but not with the old drab stock color.  So I went to my local Bike shop, and looked at some colored levers.  Was thinking going with Red Anodized ones....Then I checked on the Break lever.... Thats when the problem arose.  The Break lever is somewhat unique in its design, and my dealer could only find OEM replacements, NO cool red or any other colored ones.  I searched the Net and came up empty handed.  So without changing the entire assembley Is there any after market levers made for the Bandit that come in cool colors?  If anyone knows of a Manufacture or Has ideas on a good solution I would love to know...BTW this forum is RAD!!! so much great stuff here.

Ebay has replacement levers painted to look like carbon fiber, and possible other choices...if not offered for auction, the seller may have other inventory.

I wonder if they are truly carbon fiber...all the ones I have seen online or in catalogs are just painted to match carbon fiber.  In other words, no stronger or lighter than anything else.

Well, Thanks for all of your input and ideas.  I did a bunch of more research on the NET, and found that the Break lever is just as uncomon as the clutch.  I did find one place that had a exact break lever in a Red anodized look, but the clutch was not even close...So until I can get a hold of the seller and ask if he has more inventory then was listed. Im ordering some OEM replacements to get me up and riding ASAP! maybe later can find some cool looking anodized ones....the reason I am leaning tward Anodized rather than the Carbon Look ones, Is not that I dont think they look kick-ass, its just that I Dont have any carbon fiber looking parts on my bike, so its a cosmetic uniformity thing...  Hey thanks again..and I love this forum !@@!

Another solution...

I realize that this doesn't really address your question, but here's my experience:
I dropped my '02 1200S while turning around in the road.
I snapped the ball off the clutch-side lever, Doh!
Not wanting to spend money I didn't have to (read: cheap bastard), I pulled off the lever, took it to my grinder, and dressed up the end. Then I put it to the buffer and got the whole thing to a mirror shine.
Now I have 'custom polished shorty clutch lever', or 'ghetto-rigged lever', depending on your point of view.
It works just as good as before and actually looks pretty sharp.
I have been toying with the idea of 'customizing' the brake-side lever, but I'm not sure I want to give up the leverage, so I'm leaving that one alone for now.
Just my 2c, do with it what you will. If you'd like to see how mine looks, drop me an email and I'll snap a pic.
Later,
