Just curious if it is as easy as removing the fairing/blinkers and replacing with the naked versions headlight/blinkers or aftermarket? Anything else involved? Any unsightly holes left after? Any cutting wires? thanks

In a word, no. A bandit owner up the road from me converts back and forth pretty regularly. He likes the naked look but swaps to the fairing for long trips. He said the hardest part is the first time, because you have to spend some time tucking all the wiring in so it doesnt look ghetto. He has aftermarket turns on the headlight bucket and the fairing, so its a plug n' play deal. According to him, after youve done it the first time it only takes about 20 min to swap it.
BTW, his is a 1st gen. Dunno if that makes any difference as Ive never looked at a 2nd gen up close.

2nd gen requires a naked upper triple, an assortment of little brackets for the gauges, and new rear instrument cover. Plus the wiring has to be cut or tucked. I am doing it now. Taking the fairing off is quite easy if you disconnect the wiring behind the front cowl first. The just the side brackets and the center two bolts by the stem.

Not to be a dumbass but is 2nd gen considered 01 and later?

For the 1200's.
For the 600's it's '00 and later.
