Title: Breaking out an Intro.
Post by: p_gauthi on August 01, 2007, 06:11:52 PM
Hi Everyone,

I've been looking through the forum for a while now, but as person new to internet forums in general, haven't really gotten that first post out. Since I'm in MTL, i figure CANADA board would be as good a place as any,...

I'm in MTL (downtown) riding a Blue '01 Bandit 600.
I have been riding for a year, this is my first bike.

I'll keep an eye out on the roads for Local MTL Bandits, I know there are a few around.

Looking to take the first real roadtrip in a few weeks, so Certainly will be dedicating some posts to that..

But for now, just like to say Hello to the BanditAlley..

Salut!

Just yesterday I spotted someone riding a silver 1200 in heavy gear and wondered who it was.

Don't know if he's on the board, but here you show up!

Shrike is also in Montreal, as is at least one other member.

Maybe we should organize a Montreal Bandits Ride.
Gooseman is also from Montreal and he rides one of those nice and rare Bandits 400
So who's up to that?

That'd be cool with me, but I'd probably end up being odd man out since I work weekends.

I would suggest one of those day everyone has off from work but I think next one would be impossible for me if it's the 4th of september.
Maybe just an evening during the week it would be fun!

I would be completely down with this, as I'm usually without anyone to ride with, and, because a pack of bandits would be significantly cool...

I would be ok with a nice after work, evening ride...as a kind of get-to-knowya type of event...

Or, weekend jaunting is great as well.... I'll be heading out this weekend though, on a trip to Chicago...so I could do something in a couple weeks....

Yes! lets have a little Bandit meet one of these days! I'm usually free evenings, sometimes weekends, but not this month...gonna be outta town the next few weekends, then I'm moving.... :(

Theres a "bike nite" in Laval on Wednesday nights, right off the 13/Samson (that new commercial/shopping area).

also if you guys are looking for rides/activities, join www.m4e.com

Most guys are sport bike riders, but they do organize some nice rides on weekends. I've been out with them a few times...nice bunch of people, no crazies!

I think this Wed might be nice....so if you're down, lemme know!

Well, I am sorry to say but I cannot make it either. It;s the birthday of my GF's uncle so maybe in two weeks. Next week I am on vacation and I might not be in MOntreal. I would like to go somewhere but have not decided on the destination yet.

Actually I might have 1-2 hours tomorrow night but maybe it's not enough
What time do you plan on going there gooseman?

Are you going on a trip with your bike?
What direction?

going to Chicago, non-directly.
Plan is to head home to the Albany area, then go through PA, WV, OH, IN, and finally Illinois. Planning about 5 days to get there from NY. The way back, I think will have to be less interesting through Detroit, Toronto and to MTL.

First road trip, so I'm pretty excited...And hoping that I don't incur any major mechanical problems along the way...

Just a little tip. DO NOT STOP in Detroit...nor get lost! I once drove home from Chicago, thru Detroit/Windsor, Toronto to Montreal....I got nice and lost in Detroit, ended up in some cracktown to stop at a gas station to ask for directions. When I got outta my car, there were a bunch of gagstas (for lack of a better term) checking me out, kinda following me into the gas station. On my way out, they were coming towards my car, so I just took off as fast as I could! I'm not usually worried about this kidna thing....but man, that was some scary stuff!

If youre gonna stop, make sure its a good place. Just a suggestion!

although i like to sometimes challenge the hype, I'd have to lean towards believing you're advice on this one...it hasn't been the first time i've heard about detroit described as such....if you'll remember the scene from national lampoon's vacation when c. griswald gets caught asking for directions in detriot...ends up getting the gas siphoned and 'honky' written on the side panels of the station wagon..

and hollywood doesn't lie...

i'll look for routes on the periphery...
thanks for the advice.

It was literally out of a movie. The cashier I got directions from was behind bullet proof glass. There were a few scary lookin guys hanging outside in the parking lot to. It was not fun! Being a little 18 year old punk (at the time) and alone was not a good idea. I think it woulda been worse on a bike!

I never went to Detroit but I also heard bad things about it. Mainly about the industrial part of the town and the area surrounding it. Apparently it's not good to be after dark over there. I would also try to go around Detroit if possible.
