Island and interior ride updated with report
« on: June 26, 2009, 11:04:14 AM »
I'm leaving on July 30 and plan to be in Ucluelet on the 31st and stay for the long weekend.  At some point my son and a friend of his are going to join me and we will return through the interior trying to hit as many DH's as we can on the way back.

If possible I would like to meet a few Bandit Alleyens? (I have no idea if that is correct or not) along the way.  I will be riding hard on the 30th, but after that the schedule is open and I will be willing to put a few miles on.

As time approachs I will post more of a schedule, keep me in your thoughts and schedules

Hey Tony

I start my vacation on Aug 1, and should have my bike with me at my parents place in Nelson. Let me know your schedule back through the West Kootenays and I'll try to work out where to meet you. Maybe in Lumby or Nakusp and we'll try to do New Denver to Kaslo (Hwy 31A) when it's dry instead of wet.

Anyway, I'm off for a couple of weeks then, but have a bunch of family committments, but I should be able to meet you for at least most of a day.

We might make Nelson part of our ride now that you mention it.   I like the run down from New Denver.  I will see what things look like and PM you.

I have a part of a plan now.  I leave on next Thursday for Vancouver, and Friday cross the big water to the island, and a campsite in Ucluelet.  Saturday, try not to get a parking ticket in Pacific Rim, Sunday, over the island to ride with a friend from Campbell river, Monday dodge more parking tickets, and on Tuesday I will cross over to Horseshoe Bay and go north to Pemberton to Spences Bridge.  I don't know how long that will take so my plans are open from there.  I just have to be back in Cochrane the following Friday.   Anyone in those areas are welcome to ride along.

Have fun on the island. get the circle tour for the ferry so you can do the Sunshine coast at least one way. An awesome ride.

If you are still out riding in BC after the long weekend come by the most fun event of the summer

No laughing matter  I fear.  +40 degrees on the way to the coast.  Fog and Cold here on the coast.  The trip home looks like a transition from too hot to too wet.  I had a nice vist with friends and have done the Alberni to Ucluelet highway three times now.

Here is a tip-- When on a fog bound highway.  Wait for a passing local and make them your rabbit.  (greyhound humor) Oh and have gloves with visor wipe pad.

Having arrived here I now have to find a way out.  A few pictures  and a full report when I get home.

I am cross posting this report from the sport touring network
I came up short on the ride for several reasons - the fires that closed roads and the heat and a few other things so the best part will have to wait until next summer.  I hope you enjoy the report.

Great trip Greyhound! Hope you didn't get too wet on your way through Cranbrook... the weather has been inclement of late.

Hey Tony

Nice write up and set of pictures...Too bad we couldn't connect on your way through the Kootenays, but that's how it goes. I'm still hoping for another trip in before the end of Sept. Let me know if you have time to head this way again.

I would like to get out that way one more time before the snow flies.  But these things take as much luck and planning.
