Title: So few Bandits up here in the Great White North eh!
Post by: Silverstreak on May 30, 2005, 10:04:59 AM
First of all, the Candaian component on this forum is spread all over the place. If we were to organize a ride we'd all have to meet at Tim's in Dresden or The Pas.

In my neck of the woods there are so few Bandits that seeing always makes me look twice just to be sure. One thing's for sure I'm part of a very small group, too old to ride with the kids and their sport rockets, and too fast to ride with most of my middle age friends on their motorcouches.

So the big question is, why aren't more middle aged Canadian men getting on to Bandits?

Anyways, who cares? I luv my B12, it absolutely rocks. The acceleration from a stop and from rolling is butt kicking. The handling is awesome and it's a great two up bike. I LUV my Bandit. Besides, if nobody else figures it out then the Bandit will remain an obscure statistic for those insurance dudes who invent the rates. [/url]

hey I'm one eh.
that is if you count 55 as middle aged.
and we could meet in mississauga or brampton and at least have the GTA bandits.

I too love my B12.   it is to me what a motorcycle should be.   so many now a single pupose machines.

I know there's ahandful of us, that's my point.

I'll be riding out to London to see Beckman sometime. I'll contact you then. My daughter is going to Western in the fall so I think I'll have a reason to head out there once in a while.

It's tough to find times when we can get together. Life is just to busy. It doesn't make sense, we work so hard so we can afford the stuff we don't havce time for.

Well, you can add me to the Canadian Contingent!
Got my 1200 in March 04, don't get out much but love it when I do. First change I made was a bigger front sprocket, then a gel seat and and throttle lock (pain in the ASS to do but worth it) for the long rides down the 401.
Got into Vintage racing this year so spending even less time on the bike. Still, I wouldn't part with it, it's my stress reliever.

Hey Slow, maybe that was me, was it silver? I grew up in Montreal and still have family there. I was down in late May on my Silverstreak just to get some real smokemeat and of course those baggels, oh ya, and the steamies and poutine.

Hey 305! I just got back from riding around Lakes Superior and Huron. My butt is toast and my wrist is wrecked. Where'd you find the Gel Seat?

Maybe. just maybe that was you..

Hope you enjoyed your steamies and smoked meat. It's the diet that gives Quebecers their legendary physique! I personally enjoy Poutine Italien!!

Hey Streak, I got my gel seat off eBay. Different boards say they are now unavailable, don't know for sure. Keep checking out the boards that are Bandit friendly, they do come up occasionally. You can select to be notified by email if your search on eBay finds a gel seat.
Good luck!

There is still a silver 2002 B6 in the garage in downtown Toronto -- at least until it's sold. I have enjoyed 2 years on this great UJM.

Hey Robin, had several people asking me about the underleather at Shannonville this past weekend. I told them they worked really well. Off track too, hot summer days are no problem. Also I got a third pace in the finals again.
Started with 2 thirds at the beginning and got a third at the end, had a great season. I'm sure it was the Underleathers that did it
See ya later.

Well I know that I've seen a few B12's around..I've got a 2k2 myself. Might see you around sometime if you venture to the West side. Dark blue bomb is what I ride.

One thing I really haven't seen is a Bandit (in person) that has any type of mods.

Anyone seen these?

so far in 3 years i have only seen 1 other B12
dark geen
talked to the guy at a trafic light
noticed his headlight was different and the insrtument pod.
look like an 05 but not with the fancy (i like it) paint job.

was it an 05???

i know one year 01 i think they did have dark geen but it had the projctor beam lights not the new one.

so what was it??

'01-'05 (2G) B12's all have the same headlight setup. The earlier 1G's have a single rectangular headlight. The '05 B650 (3G) has twin lamps that are different from the 2G and since their motors are black like the B12, they could be mistaken for a 1200 pretty easily. I don't know if the 650 came in green though. The CDN market bikes don't always come in the same colors as their US equivalents, but in the US, the 2G was available in green in '03 and the 1G came in green in '98 or '99.

I'm an exile Quebecer. Born and raised in Point Claire (Valois). My wife is from Cartierville. I still have friends in Dollard and I always make my first trip of the riding season to Montreal. That's just a little over 100 days away.

Just adding my name to the list. Yea, it's a loooonnnnggg ride to Toronto from here. And I'm not really that interested to meeting at The Pas. Easier to get to Colorado.

A couple of buddies and I are trying to organize a run to Colorado next July. Let me know if any other Canadians are interested, we'll send you the details. Likely 2nd week of July, and a run from the BC Interior through Wash, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, likely Utah & possily Oregon on the way home. Basically back and forth through the Rockies with some changes on the way home.

Hey Pmackie:

I just noticed you were in Cranbrook. You should check out out annual Banff run on Sport Touring Network. (Usually in early Sept). I have been blessed with organizing it this year and will post some information in the Canadian Region thread soon.

I have decided that most Bandit owners somehow hide a lot. I just met a fellow here in St. Albert who after our discussion knows of several Bandits in my town. I thought I was the only one!

It must be the middle age group most of us are in, and having to do the domestic things which cuts into riding time.

Yes, that's it :). This photo brings back memories as the bike got quite a few mods in the mean time and about 15,000Km on the odometer. The Lockheed Super Constellation in the background is gone too :(, so I'll have to find another scenery to pose the Bandit at next time.

Hey Bazza!

When is the Banff Run?? I still have the bandit, and I'm only 10 mins north of you.  She's seeing a lot of use, as well as the 919.  We're around 6000kms this year between the two of them.

The folks over at STN are still contemplating a 2006 Banff run. Seems some of the people in the US did not like riding on snow! I will keep you posted.

LOL! wimps.    Ok,.. in truth, I haven't ridden in snow yet.

Other than the parkway, I wouldn't think that should be a risk in Banff or Jasper in September.  It hasn't been a problem any of the times we've been there in September in the past,... was that a pic of last year's ride?

most of the guys over 35 in my area are on kawi triples and various sportbikes.  as for bandits i think there are about a half dozen between oromocto and Fredericton, most of those owned by guys 26 and under.  mine so far is the only naked. I'm getting some help from deepink as far as logistics goes towards swapping my forks and wheel front end with an 05 gsxr 1000, pics definitely not avail until spring sadly

Another representative of the great white north here, 25 and not a man, but the Bandit still wins out.
I keep looking at it...hoping the weather would warm up. The bike, 1200 k5, is from QC so somebody there rode it (a lot judging by the mileage) it's been stock...up till now. I should be naked, with a slip on/jet kit by summer.
Glad to see others are watching the snow as hopefully as I am.

Yeah,.. I've got about 4 places in mind.  One isn't necessarily warmer, but it's green.  The other 3 are cheap living, and warmer.

Supposedly it's 7C today.  I don't believe it, based on the feel of the house, and the lack of sun.  But of course, there's #@%$#%@ snow in the forecast for Tomorrow and thursday.

And you're right,.. the wind has been obscene!! It's currently "only" 20kph, but I've seen it at triple that recently.

Hi fellow Canadians,

I am located in Toronto and just started riding and my 05 Suzuki Bandit 650 is my first bike.  I love her, but find her a bit heavy to manouver around when backing up, parking etc.

I was wondering if I could ask you fellow canadians where is the best place to get parts?  I am having a hard time finding a reasonable price for brake and clutch levers.  Ebay doesn't seem to have any for a 650. Would other models levers fit the 650?  Just curious!

Thanks

Hey Naturallgirl, how's it goin'?
So you need parts huh? Easiest thing to do is go to Motovan's website. Their catalogue is priced Cdn so what you see is what you pay. You can't order from them so you'll have to go into a dealer that can get their stuff to order.
I'm guessing by your email address that you go to U of Guelph? If so, Two Wheel Motorsports in Guelph has a good bunch of people in their parts department and can get Motovan stuff.
Good luck.

Thanks Petey.  I did call 2 wheel and they quoted $30ish for the clutch lever and $70ish for the brake lever.  Does that sound reasonable?  So you think any bandit parts will be interchangeable?  There are some levers on ebay but don't say for 650s.  I work in Guelph but live in Toronto.

Hi!  You can also try ordering from mrcycles.com and bikebandit.com.  They're not in Canada, but their prices are pretty good, and on the average, if the part needs to be ordered, it arrives faster than my dealer can get parts. I've used BikeBandit, I haven't used mr motorcycle, but their prices are definitely lower than BB.

Welcome to the forums btw :)

Not so true nowadays, what with the multitude of different master cylinders, adjustments and the fact they seem to have discovered if they make 'em different enough so they won't interchange, they can sell more parts.

That's because you have a 650 and the US never got that bike, so US sites won't be listing it. If you can get the part numbers of parts you want and then look up earlier 600/1200 Bandits or '07 1250's on US sites to see if what you're looking for is the same p/n, that may help.

I did give you some info in your other post on this subject.

Was that for factory stuff or aftermarket? If it's aftermarket, sounds a bit steep to me but could have been high end stuff. If so, not bad.
Not sure yet about interchangability between models. I have the same problem as you except I've got an '06. I'm still waiting for a reply from a friend that works for Suzuki to see what fits what from what years. I'll let you know what he comes up with.

One thing I do know is that the '05 650 and 1200 are pretty much identical and the '06 650 and 1200 as well. Other than the engine and exhaust of course. That should help a bit.

Hi naturallgirl, try this link
 http://www.bellssuzuki.com/fiche_select.asp?vcc=Motorcycles&mfg=Suzuki
to do a parts comparison. It's pretty self explanitory, gives part numbers and pictures.
Good luck.

That's because you have a 650 and the US never got that bike, so US sites won't be listing it. If you can get the part numbers of parts you want and then look up earlier 600/1200 Bandits or '07 1250's on US sites to see if what you're looking for is the same p/n, that may help.

Oh yeah!! duh! I keep forgetting about that!
Uhm... yeah,.. what Red said,.. I second it.

Now that's something I just can't wait to see!!!
But leathers would be a safer riding option!

      just noticed this now! In that vein here's a funny vid

I'm also one of the few riding a Bandit and I'm located in Ottawa. My ride is a new 2006 Bandit 650S that I picked up very late last fall. I went from an '04 Marauder VZ800 back to a UJM sportbike and the best example I could find was the Bandit 650S in black with the white Euro style turn signal lights. My only mods to date are a dark tint front windshield and a rear seat cover, both made by Powerbronze out of the UK.

One more 650s in Toronto, eh!
Picked up an 05 650s last summer.  Bike was stock with a set of Givi bags. Rode it to FL and back the day after I picked it up.  Good commuter and sport tourer, for me at least.
Great bike, lots of fun.
Want to go to Kelowna this summer (July).  Thinking of top case and maybe a heated vest.

Just links... flickr's pix have files that don't end in .jpg, .gif, ;bmp, etc. so their pic's links won't work in our image tags.

There's a sticky thread in the General M/C section that provides the links:

Or just click here for the USA:
