Heavier 07' B12 Same hp as 06'
« on: November 21, 2006, 11:26:36 PM »
I have been doing some research on the 1250 and it looks like the new engine makes the same hp as the old one. The difference is the engine will be smoother and hp peaks earlier than older motor. Looks like they are more interested in meeting new european emission standards than making bike more fun. Another note is that the 07' is around 30 lbs heavier than the 06'. The theory that I have read is that suzuki engineered this bike as seen in 06' but tighter emmisions caused them to redesign the motor. With heavier weight they made it a 1250 and hoped that it would overcome the dissadvantage. I think they are also emphasising touring with smoother power and possibly more torque? I like the sportiness of the bike and am surprised by this info. Looks like the 06 may be the lightest, and fastest stock B12s made, maybe the same for the naked ones too? Why didn't these bikes sell better? I don't understand why even the dealer wanted to sell me an 07 over the 06? Get one while you can, as there are a few left in showrooms.

Don't 07s cost more? Doesn't that mean he makes more money?

He would make more money on the 07 but he would still need to get rid of his old inventory? I think he was planning to possibly save the 06 for real bandit enthusiasts when the 07 came out!!! The problem in the logic is that the dealer has no idea what the 07 is going to be. they just KNOW it's going to be much better than the 06. Sounds like a common problem aflicting several people. The old greener grass syndrome.

Here is why...

When anything car bike etc reaches the end of a model, the discounts on these tend to get larger the more the model ages. When the new model comes out, everyone wants one and there are not many discounts given.

I was quoted $8300.00 CAN on an 06 Bandit B-12.

The dearler quoted me $10,200 on a 2007 Bandit B-1250

They make more profit on a new model.

The salesman definitely would make more profit on the 07. It just goes against reason not to want to get rid of your old stock first? I am in retail and the last thing I want to do is have left over product. With thousands invested in the 06 and interest on that money and leasing fees if that is how they do it, they stand to lose more than make more, at least from the dealers perspective. Perhaps the sales staff don't care but they didn't even have an 07 in stock to sell me!!! This was a dealership way out of town, and they knew I could buy the 07 locally. The more money theory doesn't add up, I just think they don't know enough about the 07's, like most people. Including me I guess!!!

Dealers wont always talk about their incentives from the factory but I believe they are strongly motivated by them. The small Suzuki dealer up in Kingman AZ I have made most my purchases with called me one day (Mar 05) to tell he had a special incentive to clear out an 04 DRZ400s which was now discounted to $4800/$5100 OTD. So I bought it as I was looking for dual sport to take me to the ride area rather then loading up. Anyway I think a Dealers entire world revolves around money, either short term (the worst) or long term (the best). Smart dealers garner long term relationships and reputations by giving you a real deal and being honest, bad dealers lie and harborer plans to get you back into the repair facility.
One other thing to consider. Anytime you see a sales incentive happening with a particular year brand and model, it may pay to do research in that same class different brand to see if anyone is offering steep discounts in that same class. What I found out was that at the same time I bought my 04 DRZ400, some Honda dealers were offering the 04 Honda CRF 450 for $5500 OTD.
