Title: Winter Is Over....Kind Of....
Post by: H2RICK on April 20, 2009, 04:19:09 PM
The Big Red One is de-winterized and back on the road!!! Hallelujah!!!
21C (62F) tomorrow and I think I'll take her to work for my first day back for the 2009 season. I'll get to ride for at least ONE day before the snow returns for Wednesday and Thursday. Grrrrrr......
I rolled her over from cold without the choke on in order to get the oil up to the top end. As soon as the idiot light went out, I flipped on the choke and she flashed right up with VERY LITTLE of the usual snarling and spitting. I used somewhat more of the Stabil in the gas last year when I put her away and that seems to have helped somewhat. Ready to rock for another season of hijinks in BC !!!! What's not to like ??? Now if I can just keep her between the shoulders....  :duh: :bandit:

yes winter is over, so just how much stabil did you use  :stickpoke:. I reakky gotta start useing the stuff now if only i had a chain tool I could pop the bandit out the door for the first ride. So far I've only ridden my little race prepped ex500 which isn't licensed so I'm limited to short runs up the street and a friends Ninja 400 and RZ350... I miss my black monster!

Yes winter is over, and has been over a few times this year. Don't forget it is only two weeks to the long weekend Blizzard.  ( I never get tired of the news reports from the snow bound campgrounds :annoy:)

Perhaps a day ride would be a good idea.  We Alberta types should plan a day ride and lunch meet some place central???????  :beers:

NOT that easterners aren't welcome  :welcome:

Hey! I might be game for that.

http://www.theweathernetwork.com/weather/caab0103
Wha? Hay! It says it's 8C out there right now.  I was going to put off errands, but if I can do them on the bike....  :bolt:

It looks like this weekend is a good one for a reasonable boot.  We're unavailable either Sat or Sunday, but not both.  R_outsider's dad's coming with the new F150, we wanna see if it can tow our trailer.  If It can, we're thinking of trading in the Mustang and the !#@$@# diesel and picking one up with all the tow stabilization and stuff.

Next weekend we need to take the trailer out for a moderate boot to see what if anything blew up on it during the winter. So that works for us too.

And that would be the farthest that I've planned so far.  :stickpoke:

I do think it's about time I met a few more of you.

If asked (PLEASE ASK) I would suggest something like Gasoline Alley in Red Deer, on either Saturday or Sunday  Of course Sylvan Lake would be nice as well, or some place not too far off the beaten track.  That might be a stretch for those in Fort Mac or Cranbrook but it should be within reach of most of us.

Too bad the world famous Gopher Hole Museum isn't open yet.  They have a Goldwing in one of the displays and I have never made the trip to see it.   Perhaps some other weekend.

I'm game for Sylvan Lake, gasoline alley, or Rocky Mountain House area.  We'd probably drive down on Saturday night, then "camp" for the night.  Got the new tap installed, now to test out the trailer. :)

This will be the 2nd ride of the year, so I'm likely to be pretty wobbly though.  Just warning y'all.

Looks like this weekend might work better for some people than next, what with next being Mother's day...
Alternatively, the weekend following, but I think that's the May long?

I am good for Sunday and can be in any of those places.
As I am going up Hwy 22 and over to 761, all those places work for me.

If there is no other thoughts on location -- you pick Stormi, your the administrator.

I would be in on a ride (if you'll have me) either next weekend or the one after or the one after or the one after or the one after or the one after, you get the picture. It would be nice to find some other folks to ride with and put some faces to names.

How far is the ride from Rocky to Nordegg? r_outsider says that it's a nice winding road ( I can't recall, but I thought it was straighter) and I'd love to see if the wild mustangs are near the road at all.

btw... I'm  just along for the ride,.. and maybe the photographer.  I'm pretty light on experience around there, so I don't even know the good places to ride. :)

hell, if today's task ( bodywork on the truck) does me in, I might be more looking to sit on the beach at Sylvan

Can you get ahold of Rick?  Maybe he'd like to come along.

I'll see if I can get ahold of snub and bazza.

Of course anyone else who wants to come is welcome, these are the two I've met within riding distance. :)

sure!  you're always welcome. I've been thinking it was long past time to meet some of the members of the board.  And it seems wrong that I'd met as many in the states and BC as my own city!

no go for tomorrow though, eh?

Late in the day but I will be at the lighthouse in Sylvan Lake at 12:30 tomorrow.   Well in the parking lot by the pier.
I will be the guy with a blue Bandit.

I haven't tried the road to Rocky Mountain House or Nordegg.  At least not on a bike. I should be able to come home that way (sort of)  and still be in time for Motogp on the box.

I just PM'd you the same, but I figured if anyone else is going to meet us there, I may not make it.  The trailer took a long time to get up and running (the shower was spraying water if the pump was on) that's fixed now, but the truck's been a bear, and my shoulder might be goofed.

I will know if we're going in the morning.  If my shoulder feels OK, we'll leave from the house around 9:30am.  If not, I will post and say no go for us.

Greyhound meets Stormi and family

It's really too bad we didn't have more time to organise.  Sylvan Lake is a nice place to meet, (well - except for all the guys dressed like gay pirates hanging around outside the bikini bar smoking)   There is lots of room to park and no shortage of lunch spots.
The back roads are quiet and for the most part clean.  Still have to slow down on the intersections as there is lots of gravel into the turns.

Still was a nice lunch and lots of good conversation.  There was even a non-forum bandit went by along with a few hundred other bikes.  It is a nice run out there and back long enough to know you have been for a ride and short enough that you can still walk the dogs.

In talking to Stormi, we thought that in about 3 weeks or so we should try again to schedule another Sylvan Lake run.   Perhaps a few more riders will join in.

(Extra note: Gay Pirate - see Harley Davidson Fashions)

Sorry I missed the ride, folks. Woulda' been there but never got Tony's PM until it was too late. Other commitments would have prevented me going even if I'd got the PM in time. I'm kind of hung up around home for awhile. :taz:

I could do something on a Saturday or Sunday in the next week or three

I do need to see the Gopher Hole museum one of these days -- perhaps need is too strong a word.

So far, the only day that's out for us is tomorrow.

We're going to the River Cree Casino to pick up our new truck.  Yeah, the banker almost denied the loan when she heard that...  :embarassed:

I was in Lethbridge yesterday and I picked up a new accessory for the bike which I think will be of great use with the current weather here in SE British Columbia, SW Alberta

If the rain keeps up I might have to look into a paddle wheel to replace my back tire.

What about a Noon time Red Deer meeting of some sort - we could brave a group ride out to Sylvan Lake or some such thing????
Perhaps Gasoline Alley

Any Saturday or Sunday upcoming works for me.

We're not available this weekend, but the following weekend (which I suspect is the long weekend?) we are

a noon meeting does sound workable...

Lets see if we can find another rider or two.   It seems a long ride if its only you and me.

If you are doing it the weekend of the 29th I can't see any reason why I could not make. that being said it is my last weekend before work starts up...

Well, it would be r_outsider too, possibly with pillion.  :stickpoke:

So,.. is the weekend of the 29th the long weekend, or is it the next one?

The next one is the long weekend.

This starts to look like a plan.

The weekend of the 29th is fine with me and the longrange forecast is pretty good.  +24 or so.

Perhaps I can bring a pillion as well -

Talked with the boss... er I mean my wife and we're going to head Westward on this weekend. Red Deer is almost 7 hours drive time for us, so we'll hit Ainsworth over on Kootenay Lake instead but I hope you all have a great ride!

Here's what I was thinking we'd (as in r_outsider, and I, and possibly our daughter, if she's back from the lake by then) do:

Pull the trailer to St Francis ( not far from Pigeon Lake) on Saturday morning, or even Friday night , and park it for the weekend at the track that we ride at.

Meet for ride/lunch/ whatever at noon on Saturday, and then take off back to St Francis, and ride the track on Sunday.

How does that mesh with what everyone else wants to do?

Yeah, that's just something I don't want to think about.

Discussion of this weekend's ride has continued here:

Hurry and speak up if you're thinking of coming, or it may not be a go.
