mime and pics below signature
« on: June 02, 2006, 07:00:25 AM »
Hey, guys.  I keep trying to resize my pics (as in downsize) but my stupid freebie downsizer off the net keeps telling me it can't work with a mime file??!!??  What the heck is that?

Also, some people have pics below their signature on BBS - how do you do that?

Thanks.

This is a mime file.

Har har.

I assume this is just based on using HTML tags.  Herb, can you post the code from your sig file to check what I am about to say:

To put a pic in your sig file, you have to make sure that HTML is turned on in your profile, and then use HTML tags in your sig file.

Example:  <img src="C:\Documents and Settings\WF Morris\Desktop\sven\fingerhead.jpg">
2003 Suzuki Bandit 1200S | el Bandido de Cerceta | the teal bandit
2010 Yamaha FJR1300A | Gin Tama | the silver bullet
2002 Honda CRV | the dirt-colored car

Jimbo, you add a pic to your signature just like you add any pic on the board, except you have to manually type in the code at the beginning & end of the pic's address on Photobucket, or whatever site you have the pic stored at.

Example:

No spaces, though, Jim.  I had to put them before the address and just after so the code would show instead of the pic.

If you take out the spaces, you get the pic appearing.  Small pics in your signature only, though.  Giant ones are annoying to see on every post.

Hmmm....interesting. I suspect either system would work since this board is HTML-aware.  Herb's method is easier for someone like Brough.  (Read that ANY WAY you'd like!)

We totally ignored the mime translation error he is getting.  I don't know why that's coming up because I don't know when you are getting it.

With HTML, you can control the size the image displays without actually changing the original file, but I would just resize the pix before I add them to my photo repository.  The absolute easiest tool for this I've seen than you probably have is Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

If not, do you have Microsoft Digital Image Pro, or MS Picture It, or Adobe Photoshop Elements, or Kodak EasyShare?  All of these have tools to resize pix.  Just make sure you give it a new name so that you don't forever change your original pic.

Hey, I don't make the rules, just a suggestion.  Why don't you re-size your pic to about an inch or so in height?  Or send it to me and I'll resize it for you.  Oh, and the whole mime thing is over my head.

I found this on 'mime' files.  Hope it helps you but it sure doesn't help me!  My downsizer just says -  'error -can't do mime files!' when I go to my file on bikepics or photobucket.

So I'll have to take Sven's advice and use a different downsizer.

I just really hate to take SVEN'S advice!    :crybaby:

I know what a mime extension/file type is, I just don't know why you are getting an error about one.  Does photobucket limit you to usijng JPG files?  Are you posting a JPG or GIF?  It may not support other image file types.  So you may need to convert image files to another type.

Don't take it personal or I'll have to start writing in italics like Daytona and give you a stress attack!! Seriously, thanks for the help but I tried something else and that didn't work either.  I try to download all these free picture downsizers from the net but maybe they're just garbage?  Maybe have to spend the dough?

Hey, that's cool that you're a bit native.  I work with Chippewas and Oneidas (from NY State) and the Muncey Delaware nation.  I love it.

Do you know if Cher is really half Cherokee (as advertised) or if it is just made up?
