Anybody into tenting with their bandit?
« on: June 03, 2006, 09:52:51 PM »
Have done a bit of camping with a bike long ago but am planning a fairly long ride, for the first time, this summer, with just me, the bandit and a tent.

Has anyone ever used one of those expensive army type one-man jobbies?  Not sure of the name but they are incredibly light and small when rolled up.

I was thinking I would just get a small $40 jobbie from WalMart but not too sure.  My present tent is 4 man so way too big.

I'm taking along one of those blow up mattresses to sleep on.

Will change the oil and the plugs before I go.

Any suggestions/ideas?

Oh God, I was afraid we were gonna find out that you REALLY like your Bandit.  Really really like it.

Hey, although I took two saddlebags, a tankbag, and a tail bag just for a week in Atlanta at someone's house, the idea of carrying a tent and air mattress sounds like a LOT of stuff.  Plus it still doens't give you a hot shower and cold toilet (or the reverse).  I'm into the motel scene, in other words.

Who needs a motel bed with  magic fingers when you've got b@ll-buzzing action at 4000 RMS?

Short answer; no I haven't combined a tent experience with riding my bandit.  Only time I've spent in tent's they were provided courtesy of the Department of National Defense.

As a child my family wasn't into camping; and surprise! now that I'm an adult my wife and daughter are not into camping; they're city girls.

However; I joined Mountain Equipment Co-op in Toronto.  You may want to check out their website.  Members are entitled to rent anything they sell; so in the back of my mind I keep thinking that one day it I do want to carry a tent with me on my bandit I can try before I buy at MEC.  Plus; their products are picked by real outdoor enthusiasts; something you're not going to get at Walmart.

Their home page is at www.mec.ca.  Here is a page that offers tips on selecting tents.

Thanks a bunch, 1200, I'll check 'em out.

I took my kids camping so much when they were young that they start to gag now just at the thought of it!

I think they would rather play a video game about camping than actually doing it. :duh:

They're even made in Canada (Osoyoos, BC)!
And there's a distributor in Peterborough, Ontario.

Do the tent and trailer come in pink?  Can you give him the part numbers?

Problem is, it would have to be reduced in size, and Jim seems to have a problem doing that.
