Back From Sturgis
« on: August 22, 2005, 12:05:27 AM »
Got back Friday the 12th from Sturgis.
Put 2450 miles on the Busa in 7 days. Went thru Kansas, Nebrasaka, Wyoming, South Dakota and Colorado.
Only issue I had was the back tire was into the wear bars as I got to Sturgis so I replaced the tire while there. Only tire I could find was a 208 Dunlop and with mounting it cost me 249 dollars at the Suzuki dealer in Rapid City.
It really was a blast. Only place I have ever been where the bikes outnumbered the cars and trucks on the highways and in town by a very large margin. Final attendance numbers are around 549,000.
Some sportbikes were in attendance, saw a couple more Busa's.
Saw a Silver 1200s Bandit parked inside the Full Throttle Saloon Monday night, Arkansas tags on it.
Never had anyone say a cross-word about the bike. I had a couple guys tell me they would love to own a Hayabusa if they thought their wives would let them.

It's not for everyone, but the shear scale of it all is impressive. Rooms and campgrounds for over a hundred miles around are booked solid. I counted 8 portable dyno's setup and I am sure I did not see them all. Several vendors provided oil changes, minor maintence, and tire replacement along the parking lots of the stores on Junction avenue. Dealers in the area open early and stay open late for service, also open all weekends. They have lines setup for minor and major services.
Most people attending ride during the day and then go party at night.
The riding up there is not bad at all. Mount Rushmore, Deadwood, and Devil's tower were highlights for me. Even got to put the bike thru some twisties in the canyons around Deadwood.
Had a guy on a v-rod wanna play one morning as I rode from Rapid City on I-90, I ignored him at first but then just had to defend the Busa's rep. Didn't want him going back to camp and telling his buddies he outran a Busa. Never saw him again as I ripped the decals from the side of that v-rod on a 6th gear charge.
Gas was 2.69 to 2.75 around the Sturgis area. Cheapest was in Cheyenne Wy, 2.14, highest was in Denver area, 2.85.
We managed to get rained on every day. Some days worse than others of course.

I would do it again, on the Busa
