Should I still post pic`s and a trip report even though there will be no Bandits?
Sorry, but it`s my vacation.  Kyle 97 B12 Iowa

1) No need to apologize! I'm 99.9% sure we're all motorcycle lovers more than we're exclusive to Banditdom.

2) Damn straight you should still post pics and a trip report! You're a member and you're going on a motorcycle trip, aren't you?

3) It is even acceptable to post pics from non-m/c related adventures if you want to share them with us in the Off Topic section.

p.s. I`ve been saring at the Alaskan state map non stop for a few days now. Someone help me!

I think the only thing we could do for you is come over and poke your eyes out so you can't see.  :stickpoke:

I think the only other cure is for you to get yourself up to AK so you can see it up close and personal.

Alaska Rider Tours has my money for a KLR 650 for a self guided tour for eight days, the airline tickets are reserved with two days in Seattle on my return trip for some R & R, I got a new digital camera,  and I have a fresh pair of drawers. There isn`t any turning back NOW!!

Ya, I got one... but you gotta come to Seattle to get it. I don't have any $0.39 stamps, or envelopes.

What are your Seattle stop-over plans?

I`m stopping there to visit a friend who just moved up there. He`s gotta couple of bikes so he`s going to show me around and were planning to ride up to Vancouver for a day of festivities  He`s also trying to open a new motorcycle themed bar. So it should be a fun time. He lives in Lynnwood, I guess that`s north of Seattle somewhere. I still sent in my paper work for a passport, even though I don`t need it. So going into Vancouver shouldn`t be a problem. Looks like everything is going to be a real hoot!       Kyle

Yup, Lynnwood is just north of Seattle, and just south of Everett, where I work. I'm always game for meeting members I haven't met yet - and if you don't mind another rider coming along...

Alaska Route Plan
« Reply #23 on: March 14, 2006, 10:22:38 PM »

I`m afraid this pic didn`t come out all that great, but each colored line reprsents one day of riding (some lines are hidden on this). Wish I had more time to go all the way up to Prudhoe Bay. The white line represents a planned ferry boat ride across the Prince William Sound and then ride all the way down to camp out on the Homer Spit for my last night ( an area of land that extends four miles out into the ocean). These are planned routes for each day, but whether I complete them or not is up in the air? Are you sure nobody else wants to go?

:monkeymoon:  Sorry, I don`t mean to kill ya. I`m 39 years old and it`s the first time in 39 years since I`ve been able to something like this. It`s been a dream of mine since I was tooling around on my tricycle. I would rather ride up there but since I cannot get that much time off of work, I`m taking the easy way out (flying & renting). Wish I had someone to go along with, but since no one else wants to go, you betcha, I`m going to brag about this BIG TIME. I`m very excited about this trip. I cant wait to get going. Thanks for input. I will have a trip report when I get back. :congrats:

lol not that i don't wanna go trust me i'd be on the plane in a heart beat talkin your ear off.... and then some.. however the cash flow at this point isn't well enough for me to take 3 weeks off since i pushed paid my bills and still had enough left over to pick up my bandit within a months time.. funny i find a post of this nature cause today i was looking at the atlas and viewing alaska on my gps laptop system... take plenty of pics.. and watch out for the beers... or bears.. most of all.. be safe and have fun

Here`s a pic I "borrowed" of the Denali Highway, It`s scenery like this that gets me all worked up. The Denali Highway is something like a 150 mile gravel road with absolutely no sign of man (except for the road) and your completly on your own. Ain`t no pizza delivery here.

Hey Stranded !

I've got a 2002 Bandit 1200 that's looking for a buddy to ride with in Des Moines.  I've been riding bikes since about 13 and have owned an assortment of dirt bikes, mucho too many to remember road bikes over a lifetime but have kept the bandit the longest.

Iowa's roads are a little boring compared to some of the New England & Florida roads I'm used to but if your interested, send me an email at bikrpitts@mchsi.com sometime !

I'm an Iron butt specialist and have ridden several trips from Iowa to Maine and back and a couple of rides from Florida to Maine and back.  Once, I road 23 hours straight (between quick stops) and put on about 1,000 miles in one long butt-burning ride.  Man, talk about getting off your bike and walking strange for the next day !

A bunch of us guys at work are riding into the Colorado mountains the week of July 10th too !

Take Care,

Joe

I agree, Iowa roads are so incredibly boring. Although I found a couple of roads last summer that really blew me away. Lived here most of my life and never knew these roads existed. Unfortunetly (or it could be a good thing) they are on gravel. The Dragoon Trail from Des Moines to Fort Dodge gets 5 stars from me. I found some scenery that looks like your in Tennesee instead of Iowa.
Yea, let`s ride. Let me overhaul my carbs first. My bike won`t start.
